Hi there,

I used to install my games by downloading them with Tinfoil.
Now that Tinfoil does not work anymore for me, I guess that I have to download my new games on my computer than transfer it to the Switch and Install them (I have Awoo Installer, can I install my games with it ?).

But I have another question: my Switch is under firmware 13.1.0 AMS 1.2.1 E, how can I know if any game needs a higher or more recent FW ?
Can I play Pokemon Arceus for exemple ?

Thanks !

Tinfoil still works great, it’s the shops that have gone TITS up. You can use the USB or network installer options inside Tinfoil too.

Awoo works great. Here are some other installers I use as well (you don’t have to pick just one)

  • Tinfoil — Polished installer. Recommend the Self installing version.
  • DBI — Capable feature filled and fast installer.
  • Tinwoo — A nice installer for when you just want to install.
  • Goldleaf — The kitchen sink but it can also install games.

You can use NSCBuilder to view the required version. Almost everything out today will run just fine on 13.1.0. Feel free to stay where you are until you run across a new release that forces you to upgrade.

https://github.com/julesontheroad/NSC_BUILDER

here’s even more tools to do similar:
  • XCI-Explorer — display information about game files
  • NX Game Info — display information about nsp, xci or installed games
  • NXFileViewer — display information about nsp or xci

If you don’t want to find them yourself you can trust others for the data:

Game IDs — database of switch games along with title ID, FW version, file name and more.
Can I play Pokemon Arceus for exemple ?
Pokemon Arceus will run just fine. It only requires something like 11.0.0.
You bet. Enjoy!

Hi mate,

Thank you so much for your precise and kind answer.
Regarding the USB installers of Tinfoil and Goldleaf, no one of them could work ! I plugged my switch to my computer but they never found my PC, it asked me to plug the cable... But well, I did, lol !

Any advice about that ?

agreed!

here‘s a bit more detail (wrote it about DBI but it pertains to all)

DBI Drivers DBI needs drivers for USB (and there are two different types!)

Hey mate !
I'm back, haha.

I have a last question: My firmware is still 13.1.0 AMS 1.2.1 E.
I found a game on a website that requiers the 14.1.1 firmware. What will happen if I ever try to launch it ?

Thanks !

It will check it‘s local requirements DB, realize you don’t have the required firmware and simply prompt you to upgrade. Simple as that.

Oh, ok.
I think that I've been mistaking for a while. I was convinced that I saw somewhere a function that allow games to launch even if the FW is not recent enough in Tinfoil or something like that.

Thks !

I’m curious which game that might be…even new games coming out right now don‘t require 14.1.1

Once SXOS stopped receiving updates newer games stopped running under that CFW. In a move of desperation some users found that while the game requested the newer FW it didn’t actually use any calls from the newer firmware so they hacked out the requirement and the games ran just fine. This bought some time but eventually time ran out and games started being produced that actually used the new features, rendering SXOS unable to move forward and play them. On Atmosphere this is a practice that’s not required. Just upgrade to the newer FW when you eventually find a game that requires it.

Thanks a lot for your explanations.
Probably the Website was wrong, but it said that the FW required for Mario Football was 14.

Websites are notoriously incorrect. Best way to actually tell is to run one of the tools on the actual game and let the game tell you exactly what it needs to run.
