Uhh...I mean, obviously real. We had to enable some extra protections from Cloudflare apparently because of some attacks on the site. This is what was causing most of the slowdowns and downtime the last few days.
I think its a worthy trade for a slow site than a site with cloudflare

Sorry to burst your bubble but that is not Linux. It looks like lightly customised Windows 11, or heavily customised Windows 10 or lower. The scrollbar in Firefox gives it away, and the taskbar icons and proportions are in line with Windows 11.

Everyone hates cloudfare because its not private and it also sucks for vpn users
I doubt that "everyone" hates Cloudflare. I have used VPNs on multiple occasions and never had any problems with Cloudflare. It's only if you were to, say, have JavaScript disabled, where it would become an issue. Or if you used Tor. These are valid complaints, but are usually worth the extra protection to the website if Cloudflare is configured correctly.

It would not be a slow site. It would be no site at all. The site has been running with Cloudflare for the past several months and still had these slowdowns without enabling its "Under attack" mode in recent day(s).
If you had no Cloudflare protection at all, the site would fold immediately under the first attack and go offline for as long as the attacker wished.

I would have rather have an occasional bother the first time I load the website on a new device, than have no website at all and have it take an eternity to load whenever it does.

Source: I have a number of small websites that I run through Cloudflare and some I don't. I have worked with others to appropriately secure websites with Cloudflare and other solutions in the past.

I've never experienced slowdowns of note, but this 'protection' prevented me from entering the site.

It just stays on that page, reloading.
