The problem is Nintendo has been sending C&D orders to any modchip installers to the point that they no longer even advertise their services on this site. You can try looking for a local installer but its also possible that they have also received letters from Nintendo prohibiting them from installing modchips. Unless you can solder it inside yourself, you are not going to have much luck hacking a Switch with a modchip.

Even if they aren't advertising their services, it should still be okay to discuss how best to install a modchip on the site shouldn't it?

Yes, discussion should be fine. There should be some tutorials in the Modchips subforum.

If you update your firmware past 11.0, your CFW SX OS will no longer work.

Hi, I'm looking to hack my switch and there's a few things I can't get a straight answer on so I'm hoping someone could clarify
1. If I download a game from tinfoil is it an insta ban
2. Is there any way to go back to the regular fw
3. What would be some good precautions to take to make sure I don't get banned

  1. There is no such thing as "insta ban". Hacking a console always has the risk of getting banned but nothing is guaranteed nor safe
  2. You would have to make an eMMC backup before running CFW/homebrew and restore it prior to going online
  3. Either don't hack the console or follow what I said above

Hi, 1 last question. I've gotten into smash online and I'm wondering Is there any way I can play online or do I have to go back to the original fw?

Attempting to follow this guide now. I'm stuck at step 10:
Navigate to /backup/<some characters>/ on your SD card and move BOOT0, BOOT1 and the rawnand.bin.xx files to the restore folder.

I have no "restore" folder on the root of my SD card. Should I create one or do I need to look somewhere else?

**edit**
I found the restore folder, it's under the folder inside the "backup" folder on the root of the SD card.

Hi, is it possible to only restore sysNand without touching emuMmc? I have a working emuMmc with games on it and would like to just leave this alone. However, sysmmc/stock boots into black screen, so might be damaged.
I have Boot/rawnand files etc.

If you have already booted CFW or homebrew even once, you would have to restore a clean eMMC backup prior to going online otherwise you risk getting banned.

Restoring eMMC backups only affect the destination where you are restoring (i.e. sysMMC or emuMMC). There are no software that affect both simultaneously as the whole purpose is for both to act independently of one another.

You can check the required firmware yourself with NSC_Builder. And Daybreak is the better option when it comes to updating without burning fuses. It comes with Atmosphere by default nowadays.

That's great exactly what is nsc ? And am I able to update my atmosphere anewer version while I'm on this lower firmware?

NSC_Builder is a tool that lets you repack .NSP, .XCI, .NSZ, and other file formats for the Switch. One of its features includes checking required firmware versions of games. You can find the thread for that tool here. Also yes, you can update Atmosphere without updating your firmware. All versions of Atmosphere are always backwards compatible with all firmware versions that were previously released before that version. If an older firmware version doesn't work with Atmosphere, that is an issue and needs to be addressed accordingly.

3. I think the most common steps people take to avoid getting banned are to setup emuNAND and then run emuNAND in airplane mode and run all their homebrew/piracy/nsp/etc stuff on emuNAND. Then swap back to sysNAND to go online and play games they own, and don't touch sysNAND in anyway except perhaps to use atmosphere and daybreak on sysNAND. (People will also run emuNAND with say 90DNS so that their emuNAND can use the internet/wifi but won't connect to nintendo servers, but airplane mode is simpler to comprehend the point of in this explaination).

The only keys that change when you update the firmware are the masterkeys which are only useful for computer applications that make use of them. The BIS keys, which are hard-coded into your console and thus never change, don't need to be redumped.

If you are using Hekate to launch Atmosphere, update that as well.

thank you much for your help! i have bricked my switch b4 and a friend fixed it so i try to ask as many questions i can b4 i go about updating firmware.
i assume firmware files are still safe off of darthsternie? should i just up to the most recent firmware supported by atmosphere and such or just go the minimum that the game needs?
