A new 2D Metroid game is in development, titled Metroid Dread

The first original 2D Metroid game in 19 years has just been unveiled. Nintendo has shown the initial footage for Metroid Dread, which features traditional Metroid gameplay elements, as well as a general horror vibe, robots, and exploration. The game will be launching later this year, on October 8th, for the Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, Metroid Prime 4 is still in development, but had no updates to show at this year's E3.

If this game takes place after Metroid Fusion, would that mean Samus still has her vulnerability to cold? I wonder if she can absorb a lot of energy from things now, like a real metroid.

Looks lackluster compared to Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid AM2R, Metroid Prime 2D.

Looks like a rehash of that boring crap Samus Returns.

I hate the name, so I'll just call it metroid 5. :D
the name has been whispered in fan circles for a decade and a half
the hype behind this title among the hardcore is akin to duke nukem forever, a legendary lost title that never saw the light of day
dkf ended up being a disappointment, but i can't imagine dread being one, considering the people behind it

Finally a sequel and not a garbage spin off fps game, Prime 1 was essential for the series but 2, 3 and 4 are trash, how many fucking games can you fit in between the main series ? thank goodness.

altough I agree that samus returns had some boring parts in it, I think all those boring parts were because it tried to stay true to metroid 2, I think this one will be much better. only the cutscenes look bad, ingame stuff looks great.

This is the first thing I've seen from E3 I'm truly hyped for. Well, this, and the official American physical CD release of Dracula X for the Turbografx.

it's a definite buy for me. I watched the Nintendo presentation earlier today. it looks quite nice. I never played the metroid 2 remake, so I think the last metroid game I played might have been other m.
