Hardware Confused - New 3DS (KTR003) button board micro-fuse is shot, but if I leave it plugged in...

Multimeter shows New 3DS (Not XL) button board micro-fuse is shot, but if I leave it plugged in the system still runs just fine. I don't know a lot about electronics but I've picked up vague knowledge from troubleshooting videos and forums. The main micro-fuse on the button board from what I understand is how the battery power gets to the main motherboard.

Why is it working when plugged in then when the system won't run without the battery but plugged in? Am I jeopardizing the system by doing this? I just wanna play Etrian Odyssey Nexus man.

Did you get the system in this state or did it become like this during your ownership of it? There are some 3DS "kiosk unit" systems that have one resistor on the motherboard in a different place so the system always runs off the charger and not the battery.

It became like this after I was troubleshooting why my system wouldn't turn on. It was a recent development as I had had the system for 4 years up to that point. It wasn't booting because the ribbon cable between the button board and mainboard wasn't connected well due to how I was securing it.

During that troubleshooting process though I was connecting the battery to the system while it was half assembled. It was around that time that the battery no longer kept the system on and the fuse started no longer registering continuity. I used a multimeter on the battery and a different battery and can confirm that it's not the battery's issue.

Maybe the blown fuse somehow changes the wiring in a way that allows the system to run from the charger? I'm not really sure about that. Either way, if running from the charger has worked fine so far, you probably don't have to worry about damaging the system by doing it.

I'm honestly wondering if the button board is getting power from the battery and the main board is getting power from the charger and as a result, the whole thing runs fine.

I believe I have the same problem. I have a japanese N3DS that

• Only turns on when the battery is in place and it's connected to the charger
• Plugging it in while it's off lights up the charging LED for only around 5 seconds
• While turned on the charging LED remains off even if the 3ds shows the 'plugged in' battery icon

Where can I find a diagram with the locations of the fuses? I think I need to replace them.

Sorry I never replied dude. Did you ever work things out? If not, I can try to find those youtube videos where the micro-fuses were pointed out to me.
