Maybe a dumb question, but, let's say that SX does not receive officially any new update, so, can a dev someway keep updating SX OS to run on higher firmwares in the future? I know it's a lot of job and a great amount of dedication, so sorry if the question is plain dumb but, I would love to see some updates one way or the other to keep using the user friendly interface on 12.0 and beyond.

Next topic, how do you change the starting boot logo of SX OS? I can only replace the Nintendo Switch one, not the red big logo.

Thank you all, this is some great achievement, because people can now to try SX and use it. Thank you and congratulations to all involved.

Thanks to this, I have been able to make a large space for the MicroSD and be able to use LineageOS again. While running all games as .XCI

PS: Reacher17 is burning hot.
I am hesitating about starting to prepare a set of updated(+patched) and splitted XCIs of the games I like to have. Is the space saving that big ? Installed NSPs have the advantage of being compatible with atmosphere and not needing the few additional clicks or button pushes to mount them, but there's something romantic and tech-cool of having everything clean and mounting only the XCI you play... I don't know how to explain this.

So, should I go for such an XCI set ?

But it is true. Mounting XCI will never be possible on Atmosphère.
Gonna have to say it will be possible if it has not be done already and not released as of yet, Every time anyone on this page has told people it could not be done not only have I seen it done they crushed the hell out of it 10 times over.
There are members on page with amazing talent that if they really wanted to get something done they will do it no matter how much you belittle or say its not possible, Every one here is all ears or eyes in this case if you would like to show your coding skills to show why this can not be done and I’m sure some one will come along if you did that just to sweep it under the rug when they get it done, I really would like to see XCI loading on Atmosphere just to see how much further they can keep pushing things but even if it was to never come It would not bother me ether way.

It's totally possible to make an opensource XCI mounter. It's even kind of easy what I heard people tell me. It's just "Why?" most people have said. It's no use and you will paint a target on you from Nintendo.

I fail to see how XCI loading would be more severe than installing a NSP.

I have atmosphere and also SXOS I just don't get the reason to mount an XCI. The only beneficial thing is you can run your games from the External HDD but who's really going to play 50 games at one time?

NSPs are used for others than piracy.
XCI is ONLY for piracy.
I am a true born cynic, so you know.

So... Yeah... A lot of us just install all those very demanding homebrew NSPs to get a Home Menu filled with great community, non-sanctioned apps that were built outside of the official SDK and need a customized firmware to be ran.

You see, people got a Switch for homebrew because it's a nice convenient device, unlike any other on the market, kind of like... a tablet?

Come on... NSP are even more used to piracy. Atmosphere makes sure of that, as there are more active users of Atmosphere than SXOS. :)
In the end of the day, Atmosphere is used for one thing only. And it isn't just for "save game backup", as the Switch doesn't delete saves all of a sudden.

Not the amount of games, but with XCI you don't have to invest in a bigger card to house a few games.

@eyeliner
9/10 times people obtain CFW for piracy. It's nothing bad with what you do with your console behind closed doors. Most of my pirated content is NSP files. If we can talk legal here you can dump your cartridge on the switch but if you really think about it why would you take space on your SD slot when a cartridge you don't need to take up space. Most switches come with a case with game pouches so I'm pretty sure nobody is THAT lazy to take 20 seconds just to switch out a game :shy:

EDIT: I never used the XCI function on my SXOS switch but then again Atmosphere is my main switch SXOS is the backup. I have a 400gb SD card on my switch and I only have 15 games on it with 200gb free space. I have a ton of emulators and etc..etc.. I just feel that people fill up their SD cards just to look "cool" versus playing the games and just taking them off when they are finished. Dont get me wrong I think XCI is pretty cool if all you play your switch is on the dock however if you do play it portable mode it's easier just to put games on your switch that you will play.

I already have a 5TB external HDD that is filled with games from all types of systems

Of course. But imagine from a big N view here and devs.
XCI is only for piracy while NSPs are of course used for piracy as well, but it's also a good format for other things like homebrew etc.

at this rate I guess in a few weeks from now we will get the xci support in atmosphere.
Maybe but it won't have much to do with this thread since everything that is needed for XCI mounting is a complete different place than what is achieved here (bypassing TX's license check).

NSPs are used for others than piracy.
XCI is ONLY for piracy.
Never understood this tbh for the very same reason I don't understand why m4xw don't want to support USB drives in RetroArch.

Two facts:
- space on SD cards is very limited
- hard drives are way cheaper than SD cards

Thus not only pirates but also legit people who use their Switch since 2017 (!) and buy a lot of digital games (or install updates for their cartridges) will reach their SD limits soon. Even if you only install a few F2P games (Rocket League + Fortnite) you're already at a few GB.
This sucks. The Wii U even had official USB support by Nintendo.
(and RetroArch on Wii U supports USB too btw)

XCI mounting enables one thing: It saves space!

Then you're free to add USB support for it and also create XCI support.

I agree, let's end it.

XCI is ONLY for piracy.

I see this argument so many times - that's like saying CD-R/DVD-R/BD-R are all used only for piracy.
Yes, it might be used by the majority of people for piracy, but there are still people here who would use it for their personal backups.
It's also easier to handle, you don't need to install it after you copied to your switch or HDD - just mount it and play.
To me that sounds like way less "hassle" than the NSP method (which also is used by pirates for their means).

Also, you can pack your homebrews into XCIs if you want...
