New PlayStation VR games announced; including 'Doom 3 VR Edition'

During its PS VR Spotlight event yesterday, Sony announced that 6 new VR games will launch on its device, among which is a VR version of Doom 3. Titled Doom 3 VR Edition, it features Doom 3 and its expansions, Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission, adapted for PS VR. These VR enhancements allow you to peer around corners, angle your shots using motion controls, perform 180-degree quick-turn and a wrist-mounted display to track your health, armor and ammo. Doom 3 VR Edition launches March 29 for PlayStation 4 and is backwards compatible on PlayStation 5.

In addition to the VR version of Doom 3, 5 other games were announced that will come later this year, including a new game from the creators of Arizona Sunshine and an anime-inspired VR MMO. But no launch date was given for these games, with most having a vague '2021' planned release. You can find a trailer and a synopsis of those games below, along with a link to the game's PlayStation Blog post for more details:

Song in the Smoke immerses players in a beautiful and deadly VR world where they must craft, forage, hunt, and fight to survive.

Take survival into your own hands, and stay alive by gathering materials to make tools, weapons, clothing, medicine and shelter. Use your club and bow to fend off strange beasts, battle the elements, and embark on a quest to uncover the secrets of the Song in the Smoke, coming to PS VR in 2021.

IT’S THE END OF THE FRACKING WORLD – COMING TO PS VR SUMMER 2021

From the creators of the ground-breaking Phantom: Covert Ops, Fracked is the trailblazing new VR action adventure that seamlessly collides relentless “run and cover” gunfights with free and fluid skiing, running and climbing. Uncompromised, audacious, and unashamedly stylish, Fracked grabs the PS VR by the Moves and delivers an ass kicking virtual reality game that has been fully enhanced for PS5™.

In I Expect You To Die 2, players return to the immersive world of espionage.

After secretly surviving the final mission of I Expect You To Die, players go deep undercover to explore the diabolical intelligence the Agency received regarding Zoraxis’ move for world domination. Players will embark on brand new missions to figure out what Zoraxis is up to, use their elite spy skills to retrieve vital intelligence for the Agency, and try their very best not to die mid mission.

Launching in 2021

Immerse yourself alongside other players in an anime-inspired VR MMO featuring thrilling action RPG gameplay. Welcome to Zenith.

From the team that brought you Arizona Sunshine, After the Fall is an epic VR action FPS with intense 4-player co-op gameplay at its core. Team up with friends across platforms, venture out into a post-apocalyptic VR world and take on huge hordes and ferocious, towering snowbreed in a raging fight for survival.

I have an app on my phone called DVR, created by Dr. Beef. It's been removed from the Play Store, but you'll probably be able to find the APK elsewhere. It's a Doom source port for Google Cardboard. You'll need a Bluetooth controller, but it works.
Not exactly why I was asking, but...thanks.

I'm just confused why they bothered with the "black sheep" of DOOM. The "red-headed stepchild" - though I don't understand why that's considered the odd one out; why not blond or black-haired? Anyway, why DOOM 3?

As someone who's already played Doom 1-3 in VR, it's because Doom 1 and 2 are shit VR games. The "fast paced" FPS style of Doom 1 and 2 doesn't translate into VR well at all, and you can tell ID was well aware of this when they made DOOM VFR slow as all fuck.

Doom 3's slow paced, story driven horror FPS style, however, does work very well with VR. You're not supposed to be going through levels in 0.5-3 minutes like 1/2, you're meant to "casually" make your way to your objective in "spooky" environments, which makes for an at least half-decent VR experience.

Also, it's "redheaded" because red heads make up something like 3% of the entire world's population, statistically speaking they're 100% the "odd one out".

Except you can 100% use the Quest and Quest 2 as a wireless PCVR headset if you wanted to ;)

eh? I never played a PC vr game with a Cable :D
With Quest you play wireless with Virtual Desktop. Alyx was great, no cables only freedom

Thing is... the majority of people don't even know about, let alone understand how to set up Virtual Desktop/Shadow PC if they did.

And you're basing that claim on...what, exactly? Because you didn't know that? At least 650k people know about it given the number of purchases on Sidequest, and it's not like setting it up is any more difficult than "install this thing on your PC, congrats you're done". It's popular, it's easy, so I'm not quite sure what your point is really.

You number is like saying the majority of people mod and/or pirate their video games because GBATemp has had 3.71M site visits. I understand my point perfectly fine, I don't need to explain it to anyone that doesn't understand. More people purchase the cable or they wouldn't still be peddling it. Nothing left to say about it.
