BioWare is halting development on "fixing" Anthem, moving its focus to upcoming projects

When it launched, Anthem was lambasted for its lack of content, many bugs, and unsatisfying gameplay loop, among other things. Shortly after the game's release, developer BioWare promised that they would improve things by reworking the game to be a better experience, which would be called Anthem NEXT. Now, just a few days after Anthem's second anniversary, those plans are being laid to rest. BioWare detailed in a blog post that while they'll be keeping Anthem's servers online, further development on the game has been cancelled, with the company instead deciding to focus on its upcoming projects involving Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

2020 was a year unlike any other however and while we continue to make progress against all our game projects at BioWare, working from home during the pandemic has had an impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.

I know this will be disappointing to the community of Anthem players who have been excited to see the improvements we’ve been working on. It’s also disappointing for the team who were doing brilliant work. And for me personally, Anthem is what brought me to BioWare, and the last two years have been some of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career.

Sadly obsidian isn't showing any of that "magic" either recently.
Their last two releases are Pillars of Eternity 2 and The Outer Worlds, so I'd say they aren't doing too bad. The Outer Worlds is no Fallout New Vegas, but I'd still rank it high above FO76 and slightly above Fallout 4. Its main issue being how short it is.

They want to push live services without actually keeping them alive, how ironic.

They want to push live services for products that will bring ongoing microtransaction revenue. Since most of Anthem's players moved on, EA didn't see a path where they could make hand over fist on cosmetics so they deep sixed it.

Great. Give me my money back at least.
I hope not, people buying garbage like Anthem and Fallout 76 are the scourge of the industry and the reason they're able to exist. People who continue to financially reward companies for producing garbage games should be given zero sympathy.

Nice elitist attitude. Now fuck off.

I know it's hard for you who think we deserve to get shit on. It's hard for you to consider that maybe we should have the right to get our money back on a product that shits the bed and shows no hope of recovering. Oh but I sHoUldn'T pREoRdER burr fucking durr. I don't.

Lastly. If you really believe the consumer is the "scourge of the industry" you're dumber than I give you credit for... And believe me.. That bar is low. So low not even a limbo master could go under it.

I sorta agree on poe 2 (i think the first is more interesting), and the outerworlds lacks in some areas, not limited the optimization and availability problems it have, writing wasn't on par with what obsidian usually do (quality wise), so I found it pretty average. Obviously better than the baby hide and seek with 4 dialog options (and a pesky voiced protagonist) that is fo4.

Let's hope the skyrim they're developing will change this, at least for me.

As much as I don't like EA and their stupidity, I think you need to take your Prozac and go piss up a rope.

I really enjoyed my time with Anthem. It was short, and I really was hoping for more, but they never delivered. Sad. There's tons of potential but no one in charge of that project has any idea what they were doing.
