When it launched, Anthem was lambasted for its lack of content, many bugs, and unsatisfying gameplay loop, among other things. Shortly after the game's release, developer BioWare promised that they would improve things by reworking the game to be a better experience, which would be called Anthem NEXT. Now, just a few days after Anthem's second anniversary, those plans are being laid to rest. BioWare detailed in a blog post that while they'll be keeping Anthem's servers online, further development on the game has been cancelled, with the company instead deciding to focus on its upcoming projects involving Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Poor Bioware, a sad shell of its former self. Now that the last droplets of talent and creativity have been milked out of them, it's around this time that EA usually takes the developer behind the woodshed, never to be seen or heard from again.

    Not disappointed, not surprised.

Even with COVID, though, they made such little progress in two years? I feel bad for those who were hoping this game would be the next No Man's Sky.

its been 2 years, were people still waiting for them to fix the game? just seems most of the user base had moved on imo, and without much of the user base continuing to send money down the drain wouldn't make much sense imo.

It honestly sad to see something people spent countless days fail and get left to die. Hopefully the rest of the game industry learn from their mistakes

Bioware should move their upcoming projects at fixing themselves.

"Can we fix the garbage that we made in the first place? What about the people who bought the game?"
"We could, but nah. Why? Cuz f'uck them that's why"

To be perfectly honest, I kind of enjoyed the game for what it was when it was new. It was like a cross between Iron Man and Destiny, which I liked. What turned me off was the constant server instability which made it impossible for me to have an actual matchmaking session, I put the game down for that reason alone. The odd bug I could deal with, but getting thrown out of sessions was a major pain in the posterior.

I would go for a thoughtful and reasoned response, maybe contemplating a few asides as I did, however I think

    ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

is more fitting at this juncture.

They want to push live services without actually keeping them alive, how ironic.

I mean... think everyone got already that the game was long, long dead. This is more like the final nail in the coffin, lol.

All the BioWare magic is currently employed in inExile and Obsidian.
