OP

Super Mario 64 - Extreme Island Romhack from Dan-GPTV has been released.
About 200 hours of work had been put into this hack.
The hack is not yet compatible with the N64, but a version that is will be released in the future.
Be warned, the difficulty is very high!

"Many arrive at Extreme Island, few can master all of its challenges.

In this 8-star SM64 ROM hack, take on the most extremely difficult stars in the Mushroom Kingdom!
In each of the three delightful yet deadly worlds, there is one star at the end of a long and difficult journey,
another star at the end of a thrilling side challenge, and multiple unique dynamics to spice things up even further:
CHECKPOINTS, You thought the Island had no mercy?
You thought wrong, because just when you think the heat is turned up too high, you'll run across a classic Super Mario Bros.-style checkpoint to come back to whenever you die!
That is, until you get a game over. You better hunt for 1-ups, because they really DO matter in this game!
STAR TROPHIES, So shiny, but so deviously placed!
There are 2 star trophies in each level, hiding in the trickiest spots. And the challenge isn't over when you grab them;
you must also land safely before it counts and you can save it to your file!
For every three trophies you obtain, you can turn them in to Yoshi, and get a whole power star!
MANY OTHER TWISTS!
Every level has its own flavor and surprises, like sleeping dangers that you must not wake, a land with flora that you can use to your advantage,
winning a race by changing obstructions to assets, and clockwork that changes its movement speed to the beat of the music!"

Then the games are $70 and they want to reboot and refresh the same game every year

At one point PC game pads where poorly supported, loading a game had setup, it was complicated. Now it's almost as easy as a console.

Xinput and 360 dongles were a driver nightmare
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I remember having to manually put in drivers and what not

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
No need for additional cords buttons or anything
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Scan a QR code on your phone open a page with the controller and a QR code for the device, hit go and done
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
But could be bad for people with lower speeds but how many mbs would it really need to detect a button press
