CD Projekt promises refunds for retail buyers of Cyberpunk 2077, even if it's out of their pocket

4HtNCXG.png

As CD Projekt Red attempts to put out the fires caused by the rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077, it's time yet again for a special message, that yes, comes in a black text on a bright yellow background format. After PlayStation removed the game from their storefront yesterday night, CD Projekt Red has updated their initial return policy statement and claims that they will be helping any unsatisfied owners of Cyberpunk 2077 that purchased their copy through a third party and cannot currently get a refund. Initially, the company asked for fans to wait for any patches before attempting to refund, but if they wanted to, they could do so by contacting "[email protected]". Now, all you need is a valid proof of purchase, and to send an email to the aforementioned contact, to which CD Projekt Red will refund all willing buyers, even if it's "out of [their] own pocket if necessary". You have until December 21st to get in touch with them, should you want a refund on your physical copy or retail digital copy.

Those that bought the game digitally on PlayStation are being given refunds currently, Microsoft is allowing refunds on digital purchases of Cyberpunk 2077 as well.

This is crazy. How is it possible to fumble this badly?

Any temp users have the game on a last gen console and care to share the experience? Is it bad enough to warrant a refund.

I've watched videos and it's definitely disappointing - I wonder if it's playable.

I also heard they did a Taiwanese company dirty, refusing to host their horror game despite promising to do so months ago...and then blaming "gamers" for it, instead of the Commie Chinese pigs (or bears, in this case ;D).
Yeah, CDPR's PR is in the red currently.

Guys, I think there no need to rush for refund, let's have faith in CD projekt will keep the promise and fix the game.

Unless you have something like a special edition or a significant discount, why not refund, wait till it’s patched and the repurchase it when you know it’s ok?

CDPR's PR is in the red currently.

Well their stock price certainly is.

they need to stop trying so hard, they've already dug their own grave with the wombo combo of the launch of this game combined with appeasing to the chinese gods of money
Oh spare me that garbage. There are far more people enjoying the game than those demanding refunds. Hop off the bandwagon.

I find it kind of funny that some companies are treating this like it's a big deal. Refunds should always be available for any game, with a few caveats of course. No reason Sony and Microsoft can't at least match Steam's refund policy.
I agree; there's also no reason for Steam's refund policy to not be improved by increasing the two-hour limit to something reasonable, like five or ten hours - or unlimited hours.
Since some issues might not become apparent until well after the initial two hours, or the first two hours are great but anything after that's a boring chore.

Oh, and as for "people might exploit this to play games for free", just flag accounts that frequently buy games and attempt to get a refund for said games as suspicious. Most people won't do this.

Hold on a second. This sounds rife with possible exploits. What's stopping someone from buying the game from the store and then getting a refund from CDPR? Then they have the game AND a refund. Or even worse, return it to the store to get a double refund.

I don't know what they're thinking.

I'm about 10 seconds from ordering it on Amazon and then asking for a refund. I wonder if they'll honor purchases made after this announcement? They can't expect everyone to go on the internet and follow the news...hm

I'd say there is a reason for that, some indie games are only 3-5 hours long total. As long as you don't refund games too often though, Steam customer service will allow you to bend the 2-hour rule a fair bit.

There are no PS5 or Series X versions of the game yet. They're just backwards compatible.

I know what you mean though, I'm just being pedantic.
there isn't? why do i keep hearing about a performance and visual modes for those versions of the game, is that just the backwards compatible version that has that built in? or is that just review copies

The PS4 version is very playable on a PS5. That is my experience.

Regarding playing on base consoles I can only go by videos I've seen, and it looks quite unplayable/a chore to play.

BW compatible version runs locked at 60fps on PS5. The visual options applies to BW compatible versions on Xbox.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
