Ok, just got this installed... Awesome. No more rebooting console to play retro games.

One question. I setup Dev mode, and I have roms all set up over there in the RetroArch folder, Can I quickly move my Roms folder over to the retail side, or should be deleting the RetroArch on Dev mode and FTPing the 60gb of files to the Xbox ?

As I plan to get a Xbox Series X soon (doing this on a Xbox one X), If I just move the retail version to my External storage, can I move it back when I get the series X?

Well, I tried to upload FTP my 74gb of games to the RetroArch folder.... and it fails.. There is NO games installed on the 1tb hard drive so there is 800gb free. (this is on Xbox One X, moved all my games to external for when my Xbox one Series X hits)

I was uploading to
/52269xbonedev1.Retrospection_8s8y06avre9fr/LocalState

After about a 1/2 hour of uploading, the FTP comes back with a "451 Exception thrown, message: There is insufficient disk space to complete operation"

Where is a safe place to upload this with out running out of space when there is plenty of space on the drive ???

Any idea ?

EDIT: Am I missing something here ???

Were you trying to upload all 74gb at once? That would probably explain the issue - ftp them in smaller chunks, maybe a console at a time or summat, throwing too much at once will overload it.

...

Anyway, been busy with life an all that so now had the chance to say, but thanks for the whitelisting! Happy Christmas Muffy was all I was saying to myself!! Didn't want the missus etc getting confused with dev mode switching so a retail version is perfect! :D

Was on Discord. Retail RetroArch has a limit of 16gb. You can't go any higher on this (Someone PLEASE correct me if there is another way), so I would need to be very selective of the 1gb+ games I use. After a few PS2, and Gamecube, I am already past the 16gb mark, never mind PSP, Dreamcast, PS1 that run better off internal.

I tested this in many times, and the MAX it would let me upload is a little under 16gb.

Rolled back to Dev Mode, Setup perfectly, All my 74gb of roms/isos show, and everything seems to run.

Just hate that I have to reboot....

Will the roms load off USB? I'm only using one game, so I haven't tested much yet.

Some will but, as you to bigger ISOs, Gamecube, PSP, PSX, PS2, and a bunch of others, you can't run them all off USB. You an error when you try to load them.

For example, I wanted to try Wii, I added 2 games, that was 8.5gb, when I had all 5 that I wanted to have, it was 23gb, that was JUST for Wii games.

It also makes a mess, as some needs to run off internal and others you want to use on USB because of space. On Dev Mod, when select to load content, all my folders show up. Every game is there. I don't have to hop between different locations for different games.

I just wish there was some type of work around in Retail mode to use more than 16gb of roms or another place on the internal drive that RetroArch could see that can hold a lot more space.

800gb free on my internal drive and I can't use it...

Did anyone get Wii games to work on the retail version?
Yes..... not every game for sure, but I got a couple running. But on my Xbox One X any game that did boot I wouldn't call playable (Animal Crossing ran best, probably about 25% speed). I suspect you'd get much better performance on Series S/X with all that extra cpu power, but if you're running last gen, then I'd not bother with Wii games (at the moment)

I've tried to run Persona 3 and 3rd Birthday without luck... same does to NGC and DC Games. Sigh... it seems that an One X is not enough.

Well, besides that this is on a good path, I checked with some good ol' Genesis games and all good in the hood, retroachievements worked like a charm but I haven't tried with any shader so far. Hmmm... If I think is not worth it on One X, how are there folks enjoying it on S and VHS? I mean, even the potato I use as a PC (i3.5005u) can emulate DC and NGC whereas my One X cannot.

Well, yeah... I'm kind of sad because One X performance but, I mean, nobody bought an Xbox One because of emulation, Jajajaja. Hmm... *hits the bong* but back in the day we use to buy One Xbox for emulation... Jajajajaja.

Happy holidays!

I can get NGC running on my Xbox One X....only the odd game is full speed, could get a lot more playable if you wanna go the frameskip route. DC is better still, I suspect most games would be playable using (ugh) frameskip..

Make sure you're playing the games from internal storage, and video drivers are set to d3d11. But still prepare to be a bit disappointed: that potato of an i3 you're using still holds up quite well against the pathetic cpu found in the One X (and One S/VHS/PS4/Pro) and cpu is still a big factor when it comes to emulation.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Hope you've had a good morning.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

There's also this thing where I'm hyperfocused at night and cannot get to sleep.

    @Maximumbeans, I'm doing alright, thanks.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

@Maximumbeans, I had a friend who had a glass chess set for their birthday.
