@cucholix It's based on the second release. It always crashed for me when exiting from the game menu, to clean exit you have to exit from the home menu then close the game I think.

Fuck yeah, bitch! I always dreamed of original GTA's on portable devices like the PSVita and Nintendo. The GTA mobiles versions for iOS and Android are way too saturared in colors and lost their original graphical touches.

Am I tripping or car damage is wrong? I played the game last time when it was ported to iOS (and actually beat the game for the first time) and I don't remember the cars being so fragile.

I have to share this: when I played the game for the first time, we only had a pirated version available with machine Russian translation (it was the way in Russia, no other option was available and pirates actually mass produced CDs with cracked games and machine translations (but there were some groups which actually did a good job at translating games and even made games by themselves: Sea Dogs (oh man, sweet memories of that game + Captain Blood novel made my childhood) series maker, Akella, I think, had been pirating games and translating them at the very beginning) which were really bad. No one had internet at the time. So I never understood what I did wrong. I was stuck on the mission named Marked man, the final damn mission of the game and I went for the bridge every time and was killed. I thought it was a bug in the pirated version so I never finished the game because I was not able to understand, what I was doing wrong. When I played it on iOS, I think it was pretty obvious that you have to use the tunnels...

I learned the cheat code "gunsgunsguns" from a friend, who I saw once or twice a year when we met in the village which I was forced to go to by my parents...

And most of the info about games I got from the paper magazines I had to buy every month... I feel old, even though I'm not. I remember one time when we were reading the magazine with some per-release screenshots of GTA3 and my friend saying "the game is not even out and I already want to play it". We used to play GTA2 a lot together.

When I played Vice City, I had better grasp of English already and the pirated version provided a way to launch the game in English, so I went for it. I was the most popular guy in school because everyone was playing Russian machine translation and they were not able to understand the missions, so I had to explain to them what needs to be done. Or was it San Andreas?.. Which was infamous for it's bad translation? I don't remember.

Surprise.
You create a folder named gtavc (or whatever ;))
And you follow the same instruction as for gta3 (convert audio wav then copy data) but using your vice city pc version 1.1.
And you use the NRO linked in my post.

I don't know if the game is finishable or the port complete. I just compiled it thanks to @Graber prior work.
EDIT: This release was based on a set of sources not meant to be released yet to the public as a working executable.
Link removed.
Thanks for your understanding.

@Graber if you want to build and maintain it, I just checked out the miami branch and applyed your modification on top of it.

Edit: take a while to convert texture and start. Then show a black screen for one minute before starting.

Yeeessss! You guys!!! I knew we were close! Those games were so similar! Awesome! :)

I have done nothing appart using the work of the author of the thread and vice city seem barely playable :/ It show huge freeze when loading (audio?).

It show huge freeze
Yep! Thanks for your great efforts, but for now:

With 1785 MHz overclocked CPU, the game is 3-5 fps, the 4th core of the CPU (via Status-Monitor) loaded at 98% at the very start of the game and it's completely unplayble, but it's loading well (no errors at all), and 'works' in-game. Here're some screenshots:
2 (2).jpg 2 (3).jpg 2 (4).jpg 2 (1).jpg 1 (5).jpg 1 (6).jpg 1 (7).jpg 1 (8).jpg 1 (1).jpg 1 (2).jpg 1 (3).jpg 1 (4).jpg
Can't go further in-game 'cause of 3 fps, though.
I'm at AMS 0.14.4, OFW 10.2.0, sysNAND, it runs through custom forwarder.

Guess the port of the game just needs some more custom optimization and love from it's devs, and voila — GTA VC is ready for the Switch!..

It works with VC as well. It is still ADPCM audio.
my Vice City Audio folder on CD2 was all .mp3 files
guessing we need to convert those to .wav first

NVM it converted them to .wav and installed in the game folder
