Nintendo announced a mario bros battle royale for Nintendo online subscribers, cool right ?

Apart from the fact that they took down a battle royale fan game and then a year later made their own.

Even when the sprites were changed they still took it down.

And the fangame is better, too.

Or maybe Nintendo already the idea to make a Mario Battle Royale and it was in development at the time InfernoPlus released his Mario Battle Royale? The same thing happened with AM2R, which got a cease & desist around the time the Metroid 2 remake was released on 3DS.

And again, the fan game was way better than the one released by Nintendo.

Really wish I had known about this game when it was happening. Mario 35 looks fun (Makes me want a not-banned switch, hopefully we can spoof a server) but this fan game was clearly a better implementation of multiplayer mario.

Edit: Is the code for this game still out there? Maybe there is a secret server where we can still play?

So Nintendo ripped off someone who was using Nintendo's IP....

Why can't people make their own original stuff rather than relying on what popular to drive them? Would save a lot of headaches with no C&D orders.
The "Great artists steal" quote seems appropriate for this. This kid just wanted to make a multiplayer version of a game he loved. If you watch the videos you'll see. This was an amazing idea.

I agree making original stuff is a better idea but you never know where inspiration will come from. It's hard to create something totally new when so much amazing stuff has been created in the past. Inspiration has to come from somewhere. Sometimes it's a better idea to improve something already made.

That is highly unlikely that they were making the same exact game they took down, but even if they were how come it too them so long to make a such a easy thing?

It's pretty clear that whatever team worked on Tetris 99 has made Super Mario 35, it may be that this game was 'ripped off', but the reality is, this game was inevitable in some form from Nintendo. The Battle Royale formula is a winning formula that can be applied to any genre and franchise, and slowly, but surely, that's happening. After applying the formula to Tetris, another big franchise was a certainty, so doing it to Super Mario is a no-brainer, just as applying it to the 3D platformer has proven to be a success for Fall Guys, and titles like Worms are getting the treatment as well (genuinely can't wait for that one). Surprised there aren't any racing battle royales yet, and I bet Bomberman is a game that will get one at some point.

I lowkey hope that Super Mario War is brought back with multiple player support and online play
Speaking of, if anyone can add Wii U Pro Controller support to the Wii build of Super Mario War and share it, I'd really appreciate it source is here: https://github.com/dborth/smw-wii and Wii U pro controller support code is here: https://github.com/FIX94/libwupc yeah I know this is a major hijack of the thread, but I saw an opening to reach more people with my request and took it lol.

It may be that the existing IP is what is driving them, especially when it comes to fan games.

There’s also a difference between basing something off existing work and starting from scratch, you may be a good level designer but not a coder, enemy designer, etc.

It's not the same exact game though. Even from the small trailer we can see it's 35 players not 99, split screen not single screen, and different win conditions, not just race to the end of the 4 level world. Also, we have no idea how long it took them to develop this battle royale. They could have been sitting on the finished build for a year now waiting for the 35th anniversary event.

And this is why I don't support Nintendo shit anymore.
Ditch their shit.
Emulate their stuff and don't pay them a cent.

They deserve to die the fuck off the industry for treating fans like shit.

Well Sonic franchise has proven the opposite, there's not much that can be made with it.

If by "Battle Royale" you understand a multiplayer competition being held in realtime, then you're forgetting the Trackmania series.
