"I recommend wiping the SD card then placing the new files. Make sure you backup the Nintendo folder, any homebrew applications in the /switch folder, and game mods in the /contents folder"

That's a Greek f***ing tragedy with a 1TB SD card, LOL. Is there anyway to preserve installed games?

"If you are going to continue using Hekate, it would be prudent to update it as well"

Is Hekate still the prefered payload thats recommended in the Ultimate Guide? Or has it been replaced with something else?

"I personally don't recommend updating to the latest firmware yet as not all homebrew and tools support the latest firmware"

Hmm, so it would unwise then to try to install and play a game thats on a later firmware until I update to the firmware it uses...? That seems like a silly question but the 3ds let you spoof the firmware somehow, I think.

"There are several legal and illegal methods of obtaining the firmware"

I guess the legal method is to acquire a game that has the update packaged with it? Any other legal methods I should know about?

"If you are going to be updating via ChoiDujourNX and wish to not burn fuses, then it doesn't make a difference as ChoiDujourNX will either enable or disable AutoRCM when you install the firmware"

Is there another way of update?

"Those are the correct patches although if you check the appropriate box on SDSetup, you can download the patches pre-packaged"

When I check the URL for the "Signature Patches (ES/ACID) by HarukoNX" it takes me here which has a message saying the patches are deprecited, giving a link to another page here. Are these the correct patches then:

https://github.com/HarukoNX/PKG2-Patches/releases

This is correct if you manually created an emuNAND.
so i did exactly that, and created manually a emunand. my goal in installing the cfw was to edit my fav pokemon. i am a bit unsure how to proceed. i would like to still be able to play online.

basically i should boot in emunand, export save, edit pokemon, put back save then after that boot in sysnand and i should be fine doing raids online? (if that matter, i just want to make it shiny not edit and make it an illegal one)

thanks

  1. This is a silly question. Do normal firmware updates upgrade you multiple firmware versions or just the latest?
  2. Hekate is not really a homebrew application nor can it ever be installed. Hekate is an RCM payload that has many functions including the ability to boot CFW
  3. I don't know where you heard such things but that is not true. You can also check if AutoRCM is enabled or not in Hekate
  4. Be aware that CFW is never installed on the Switch but yes you can follow those steps for updating your firmware and CFW

Thanks for reply

If i just want to play recently games, I need upgrading firmware only?

I mean,

https://reinx.guide/guide/post-installation

can I skip " Updating ReiNX" part and just do "Updating / Downgrading Firmware" ?

If you edit a save file on your emuNAND, then it will not be on your sysNAND. If you edit a save file on your sysNAND, then you risk being banned. These are the steps for safely editing Pokemon:
  1. Make whatever edits you want on your emuNAND
  2. Trade the edited Pokemon to another Switch
  3. Boot your clean sysNAND
  4. Trade the Pokemon from the second Switch to your sysNAND save.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

You should always update your CFW to the latest version before updating your Switch system version. You should also make sure your CFW supports the latest Switch system version before updating.

If your sysNAND is clean, and you aren't ever going to use CFW/homebrew on it, then yes, you can remove the custom DNS from your sysNAND. Make sure you have 90DNS and/or Incognito are installed to the emuNAND however.

As for updating Pokemon, you can install games, game updates, and DLC on your emuNAND using HBG, Tinfoil, or something similar.

alright you've been very helpful, i have 1 last question, i think i might have run jksv to backup a save on sysnand, should i be fine continuing like this or should i restore something (considering i did all backups from the switch guide)? or should i just restart from the beginning?

Your NAND is probably relatively clean. Restoring an old NAND backup at this point might be more dangerous, since it might cause a log mismatch. You shouldn't use homebrew/CFW with your clean sysNAND.

Jeez the way you quoted this makes it incredibly to respond to each statement...
That's a Greek f***ing tragedy with a 1TB SD card, LOL. Is there anyway to preserve installed games?
You didn't read what I said at all. I said to preserve the Nintendo folder which holds all games installed to the SD card.

Is Hekate still the prefered payload thats recommended in the Ultimate Guide? Or has it been replaced with something else?
There is nothing better than Hekate nor will there ever be anything that comes close.

Hmm, so it would unwise then to try to install and play a game thats on a later firmware until I update to the firmware it uses...? That seems like a silly question but the 3ds let you spoof the firmware somehow, I think.
You cannot apply what works on one console to another. Not to mention there are no games that require firmware 10.X. Those will most likely show up when firmware 11.0 is released.

I guess the legal method is to acquire a game that has the update packaged with it? Any other legal methods I should know about?
Dumping the firmware from a console that either has the update pending to be installed or has it already installed.
Is there another way of update?
Updating online, with a game cartridge

That doesn't mean SDSetup isn't pulling the right patches. It may have forgotten to just update the page where they originate from.

I apologize, I didn't know that that is where games are located, that's a relief.

I think Xcom and Borderlands are using 10.0.2, unless what I am reading is wrong.

Edit: Looks like Xcom is running though. So good so far.

Anyone know this RCMloader?

If I want to upgrade my ReiNX version, I have to upgrade this too, right?

However, as you can see, it doesn't have any usb port or something.

I saw other rcmloader has usb port for inserting payload.. but I have no idea for mine.

how can I insert payload in this rcmloader?

Couldn't you just use the USB-C that is sticking out? I'm not familiar with that specific dongle, but you should be able to just plug it into your computer. You'll either need a USB-C slot on your PC, or get a USB-C to A adapter.

For this reason, it's recommended to load any sort of RCM loader with the Hekate payload. That way, you can just chainload whichever payloads you want from the SD card, and you never have to update the RCM loader itself. It's much easier to update payloads on the SD card than on some RCM loaders.

Situation
I got my switch on OFW 10.0.3 and a Emummc on atmosphere FW 10.0.0. On the OFW I only play purchased games online and on Emummc downloaded games offline. I also got a backup of my OFW 10.0.0 but forgot to make new ones of the newer OFW's

What I want to do
So what I want to do is to get atmosphere on the Emummc to the latest version possible so both my OFW and Emummc are up to date again. However I don't know the right method to achieve this. I got my backup of OFW 10.0.0 but can't use that because I updated my OFW however CFW never touched my OFW so in theory it should be clean?

So the questions are
1. How can I update my Emummc from atmosphere 10.0.0 to 10.0.3? (If it is possible to just delete the Emummc on the sd card and make a new Emummc that fine by me cuz I understand the process)

2. I got my OFW 10.0.0 backup but updated to OFW 10.0.3 without making a new backup. However CFW never touched my OFW only Emummc. In theory my OFW 10.0.3 should be clean right? So would it be right to make a new backup of my OFW 10.0.3?

ChoiDujourNX to update your emuNAND to 10.0.3. You don't need to make a new backup.

you mean, I can upgrade payload in my SD card?

I don't know how RCMloader works. Isn't RCMloader has payloads in it and inject payload to switch?

Is payloads in SD card?
