So this is my lib_nx.ini. The logic here is that humans are actually more sensitive to horizontal resolution than we are vertical, so I've prioritized horizontal resolution at the expense of vertical. In other words, this config file will reduce resolution down to a minimum of 576 x 432 compared to the default 672 x 378. Not only is the subjective image quality better at the minimum resolution, but an added bonus of my file is that the amount of pixels is also reduced over default (248,832 pixels vs 254,016 pixels). This means you can actually get a playable framerate with a downclocked GPU (230mhz) - all while looking better than the unmodified game. This is especially useful if you're away from a charger for longer than expected and want to squeeze out more gametime without sacrificing performance.

Another setting that was changed is red_AtRate. Reducing this to 85.0 is the threshold where resolution transitions no longer result in stuttering (this also applies to XC2). The upper bound (max resolution) was changed to 1280 x 720 so that you can take full advantage of the native screen resolution when plugged into a charger. TMAA is turned on here (but, critically, the sharpening is disabled) and can be turned off and/or substituted for FXAA depending on your preference. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Code:
red_hdsclX=1.0
red_hdsclY=1.0
red_Auto=on
red_AtMinX=0.45
red_AtMinY=0.60
red_AtRate=85.0

AntiAliasing=off
AA_Sharpness=8.0
tmaa=on
tmaaNewUpScale=off

Hi, is this config file enough or do I need some other file from the XC2 thread to apply the resolution tweak?(You mentioned something about this in an earlier post of yours) If yes, which files exactly? Sorry, I am new to this and it's confusig. Thanks in advance.

You don't need any other file. Just place it in the atmosphere folder as it is described in the original post.
Reboot (I believe?) your switch after that.

OC is 1428/460/1600mhz .
I believe the impact of the cpu OC is minimal and might tweak to reduce this. I am a beginner with this.

Very throughout explanation & thanks for the share. I will definitely try this down the road.
I am quite happy with mine but curious to try others and see the results.

Well xc2 looked pretty good for 720p
its true. but it could have looked better. I would have liked to see a little more range on the resolution for both xc2 and xc de maybe 1080-504 docked and 720- default min handheld

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I can port the ones from XC2. But this will be after 2 weeks.
ok I think its pretty easy to do this myself in the meantime theres only a few new variables to deal with

Can someone make an xci file of this when it's finalized so I can use it with sxos? Or is it basically in fully working condition now? In order to use this do I need to oc my switch? I've never oc'ed a switch before so I don't know how to do that with sxos. I'm still pretty new to the whole switch jailbreaking scene so I don't know much about it. I couldn't even get atmosphere fully working on my switch at least not stable.

I noticed the trees shadows shimmering whenever I messed with aa and tmaa. anbody else notice this?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

720p max
apparently that tree shimmer is a bug with the game its just more pronounced once you turn off aa. hopefully its patched with a day one patch

This is a mod not a game release. it works with whatever nsps and xcis you have. Also the main post is the stock file so If you were to install that it would do nothing since it doesnt change anything by default. You don't need to overclock as long as you continue to use dynamic resolution which the switch still struggles to keep at stable 30fps at 720p while overclocked. My understanding is that it isnt possible to overclock sxos since sysmodules dont work with it. When overclocked I saw a significantly more stable framerate on xc2 and I assume the same is true on this one and it will have to use dynamic resolution scaling less often while overclocked as well. But to overclock you would likely have to swap to atmosphere.

I just signed up to say thanks to OP and thought I would share the impact of modifying the config file.
The game looks gorgeous with the modified config file.
Doesn't seem to be impacted so much by performance so far with a small OC.
I will play more in a few hours and see the impact.

The change I made was to copy paste @thieve config file and I applied Torna resolution tweak from the XC2 thread.

I can not post any pictures as my account is new.... (Edit: actually I can.)

What do you mean torna resolution tweak?

I've been testing in initial scene and the first town (important, my testing may vary in other places). These are my findings on handheld:

TEST 1:
Switch set to 1500/460/1600mhz
Game set to 720p base, no dynamic resolution.
No sharpening filter, but tmaa is enabled.

Results: IT LOOKS SO FRICKING GOOD. Not very playable though, it drops regularly and it feels like game speed is lower.

SEARCH THESE SETTINGS ON THE .ini

red_sclX=1.0
red_sclY=1.0
red_hdsclX=1.0
red_hdsclY=1.0

red_Auto=on
red_AtMaxX=1.0
red_AtMaxY=1.0
red_AtMinX=1.0
red_AtMinY=1.0
red_AtRate=97.0

(OPTIONAL, first setting is Antialiasing and second one is Sharpening)

tmaa=on
tmaaNewUpScale=off

TEST 2:
Switch set to 1300/460/1600mhz
Game set with 720p as base, but scaling down to 85% of 720p when needed (dynamic resolution).
No sharpening filter, but tmaa is enabled.

Results: Runs fine, but sometimes when rotating the camera there's 1 second of stutter since it adjusts resolution. If you are okay with it it's a good experience.

SEARCH THESE SETTINGS ON THE .ini

red_AtMinY=0.85
red_AtRate=97.0

(OPTIONAL, first setting is Antialiasing and second one is Sharpening)

tmaa=on
tmaaNewUpScale=off

TEST 3:
Switch set to 1300/460/1600mhz
Game set at 85% of 720p base resolution, with no dynamic resolution.
No sharpening filter, but tmaa is enabled.

Results: Looks way better than base settings, stable 30FPS. Might be the best way to play?

SEARCH THESE SETTINGS ON THE .ini

red_AtMinY=1.0
red_AtRate=97.0

(OPTIONAL, first setting is Antialiasing and second one is Sharpening)

tmaa=on
tmaaNewUpScale=off

TEST 4:
Switch set to 1300/460/1600mhz
Game set at 75% of 720p base resolution, with no dynamic resolution.
No sharpening filter, but tmaa is enabled.

Results: Works at 30FPS as expected, and it should have a good overhead compared to Test 3. CPU clocks could be lowered and it should work aright

SEARCH THESE SETTINGS ON THE .ini

red_hdsclX=0.75

(OPTIONAL, first setting is Antialiasing and second one is Sharpening)

tmaa=on
tmaaNewUpScale=off

Any of the tests looked miles better than the original settings. tmaa shouldn't affect too much performance, and it's more preference just like sharpening.

I got the setting info from here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/xenoblade-chronicles-2-graphics-settings.529436/ so thank the author from that page.

I've Tested Test 3 and 4

Somehow in the Area I was the Results from Test 3 were to bad i had many framedrops.
But Test 4 went pretty well.

Here Are some Screens vs the default in 720p

I'd also be interested in how this Torna resolution Tweak works because this looks really really good

sorry for all the Qs, but is all I do is copy the file from the OP to the root of my sd card and run XB for it to work or is there something else I need to apply?
