Welcome to gbatemp!

I would recommend GBARunner2 since gbaemu4ds is barely maintained now (last update on github was 30 march 2019 and before that back in 2014 and the wiki states it is abbandoned) , and even one of the developers contributing to it, cotodevel, has made his own fork of gbarunner2 which is still seeing updates (last was on February 24th 2020). However, the most frequently updated and most compatible is the main GBARunner2 by Gericom and this is the one I would recommend!
Here's the original GBArunner2 by Gericom's compatibility list for running on DS:
https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/GBARunner2

Here's gbaemu4ds' compatibility list:
https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Gbaemu4ds_Compatibility_List

Hope that helps.

Hello.:)

When I look through the List of Games that work...
and how easy to "configure"...

GBARunner2.:yaysp:

Because it is actual and is still under heavy further Developement
from @Gericom with a lot of Testing Help from many experienced GBAtemp Users.
(like @Dodain47, @Zense and many many more, sorry I do not know you all,my Freinds, please do not be "angry".:))

Thank you.:)

Hello.:)

Your System Firmware 1.3 did not support SDHC/XC Cards.
Please also avoid microSD Cards/Adapters.And please format the SD Card always with FAT32.

You need a non SDHC (maximal 2 GB) Card or Update to V1.4.3 or higher.
Please note:If you maybe have an older Flashcard,it maybe would not work after the Update !

Good Luck and
Thank you.:)

Hey - thanks - the cards i tried were 1 & 2GB but i'll check via your guides as well to see if i missed anything else. do i need to worry about the version of any of these tools on the old 1.3 firmware (eg. unlaunch is 2.0)? will any of this be easier if i can upgradethe DS itself to 1.4..?
THANKS again :)

Since unlaunch is started instead of the normal Launcher an update of the official firmware won't change anything (besides blocking exploits and flashcarts)
Unlaunch itself works fine with larger SDs.

Please format SDs with https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/ and check any new card with h2testw, f3 or f3x before trusting it.

Good luck!

Where did you find this? Official Nintendo site does not mention this limitation.

quick update to let you know it works! formatted the same 1GB card with the official tool you linked - tested it - copied the same files back again - bingo!

(interestingly the format tool didn't give me any options on FS and just did it in FAT - not FAT32)

anyway - issue must just have been the card formatting process. awesome - thanks so much :yaynds:

onwards!

That is good news! Thanks for reporting back.

Official SD formatter applies the default file system for each size:
  • FAT16 for ≤ 2GB (SD)
  • FAT32 for 4GB-32GB (SDHC)
  • exFAT for ≥ 64GB (SDXC)
Not sure what it will do with SDUC (not yet in production). Probably exFAT on GPT instead of classic MBR partition table.

This means for using SDXC cards in older devices an additional formatting process with another tool (guiformat on modern Windows) is needed to get it to FAT32.

Hi there, I can't find the Gbarunner2 . Nds file anywhere in the Internet. Could you please tell me where can I find and install Gbarunner2? Even I try github, still didn't find that file anywhere.. I don't wanna hack my 3ds, I am using r4i card. So I just want to install gbarunner2.

https://github.com/Gericom/GBARunner2/releases
Didn't have any trouble finding the download. (Click on "Assets" on latest Pre-Release)
At the moment it is this one:
https://github.com/Gericom/GBARunner2/releases/tag/v20200421-172046_088cbc5_dsp-audio

GBARunner2_arm7dldi_ds.nds worked for me on R4i Gold 3DS (Started "Castlevania – Circle of the Moon"; game works and saves)

Since I'm not actively following GBARunner2 development and are not actively testing it, I can't be of further assistance. If you have more questions and/or problems you will most likely get competent help in the official thread:

Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the DS(i) Section from GBAtemp.

Hm,did you maybe have another Internet like here in Europe ?
Maybe your Security Settings prevents you from finding "the File".:(

If you use "gbarunner2" as Search Term,it should find this:

Ohne Titel-1.jpg

Clicking on the first Entry it leads to this github Page:

Ohne Titel-2.jpg

Clicking on RELEASES it leads to the already released GBARunner Builds:

Ohne Titel-3.jpg

Clicking on the first entry leads to the needed Files:

Ohne Titel-4.jpg

You can try the arm9ds and arm 7ds/dsi .nds Files.
Do not forget to read this please:

https://github.com/Gericom/GBARunner2

Usage Notes
  • Place a GBA bios on your sd card. Either /bios.bin, /gba/bios.bin or /_gba/bios.bin will work.
  • If you have a gba folder on the root of your sd, this folder will be opened by default
  • Make sure your games are SRAM patched if needed, but most games should run without with the latest versions. (use gbata)
  • If you are using GBARunner2 with TWiLightMenu on a DSi or 3DS with the SD card, make sure you use the dldi on ARM7 build
  • The settings are accessed by pressing R on the rom selection menu. Settings are saved when leaving the settings menu

Good Luck and
Thank you.:)

I know a guy who wants to homebrew his DSi, but he has no access to a PC, only a Chromebook. What can he do?

Hello.:)

He can use the HiyaCFW Helper and use the Python Version.
https://github.com/mondul/HiyaCFW-Helper/releases

He should do first the
- Memory Pit Exploit
then the
- NAND Backup

Then he can use the NAND Backup with the HiyaCFW Helper and it should install all completely on the SD Card.
(Internet required of Course.).

Thank you.:)

Thank you, but unfortunately, he was unable to even start because he couldn't access DSi.cfw.guide, nor any of the file hosting sites that I tried (Google Drive, GMail, MediaFire, and Mega), all due to his school filter

If anyone has a solution to that, that'd be great :)

Follow-up to this, he got the files. He put them onto his SD card, but upon going to the camera application and going to the SD album, nothing happened, the exploit didn't launch.

I was able to reproduce this, and I can't see what we did wrong, I feel like I'm missing something big here. pit.bin is in private/ds/app/484E494A.

Which SD Card did he used please ?
(micro)SD Card Type / Size ? How is it formatted please ?

Attached are the Files again, maybe something "happened" during the Transfer ?

Good Luck.
Thank you.:)
