Hey, so the quarantine has gotten me searching for things to keep myself occupied so I decided to homebrew all of my Nintendo consoles. My Switch and 3DS are done, which leaves me with only my Wii U left.

I remember working with it about 6 or so years ago and successfully hacking it. I don’t remember the steps I took or how the method differs from today’s methods, but I do have the homebrew channel in my Wii menu and Haxchi installed on my Wii U menu.

Call it weird or whatever but I would prefer to just start off with a clean slate, factory reset my Wii U, format my SD card, and do it all over again. I was extremely new to the scene back when I originally did it, it’s been over half a decade, things have to be much better nowadays. Plus redoing it will keep me busy for a day or so.

I’ve dug around quite a bit and couldn’t find many concrete answers for my specific scenario. Mainly due to the fact that I’m not entirely up to par on my Wii U knowledge. I’d rather be safe about it, so I have a couple general questions before I move forward with this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. System settings shows my console is on update 5.5.3. Would this indicate that I am NOT running CBHC Haxchi? It is my understanding through research that CBHC shows 99.99.99 up top of the system settings, correct?

2. If I am indeed not running CBHC, is it safe to go into data management and uninstall Haxchi? Am I supposed to somehow remove it from Brain Age first, and then uninstall Brain Age?

3. Are there any other steps I need to take after uninstalling Haxchi to ensure this goes smoothly?

4. Are there any potential risks to doing this? Will I encounter any issues reinstalling the CFW after the reset?

Thanks again in advance, if you need any more info from me to ensure the solution lmk

First of all we need to know if you're running Haxchi or CBHC (ColdBoot HaxChi). So if you go to data management and look at your DS game, is it called "Haxchi" or "Do not touch" ?

BTW:

With modern versions of (CB)HX you're right but to get 100% sure do what I said above... Just before you're running some outdated version of (CB)Haxchi which does not set this version string :)

The foolproof method to see if you have Haxchi or CBHC is to try launching a VC title, home brew title, or a game with unowned DLC installed. If you’re told that they can’t launch and to reboot your WiiU you just have haxchi and are not cold booting into CFW. If they launch you have CBHC.

I don’t know what the icons looked like 6 years ago or if you still got the black CBHC screen when you turned on your WiiU back then, but I do know that what I said to look for is the same.
