video guides are always trash , never follow them as they become out of date quickly and cause problemsand you can't check til it's too late

The guide for the link you posted needs updated. That PS3 web browser URL used in the guide is deprecated.

PS3 video guides can stay relevant for years. Methods stay about the same due to so few relevant breakthroughs, especially compared to the development of the 3DS scene.

that was was outdated, but that doesn't chnage that video guides are trash, download links can be old an are frequently unupdated, things don't get updates, no support etc

Mr Mario Updates his video guides as needed. They are straightforward and user friendly.
When in doubt, read up on information on said console before hacking and never update unless specified in guides that are verified.
Happy Hacking.

Thank you this is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for, noob friendly and well explained. I don't know why but lots of ps3 tutorials have some crazy music you hear in 360noscope videos...

Do you have a tutorial video or text for the online stuff, I guess if i'm running this custom firmware I can't play my backups online but is that the same for the games I have on discs?

And Is there a way to switch between the custom firmware and the normal one so I would be able to use online functions? Can I get banned even If i'm not playing online? Also is this reversible?

Thank you and sorry for the newbie questions!

Mrmario tutorials are the best. You came to the right place tough we know what we are doing.

Since CFW is the same as latest OFW, there is no downside in having CFW it functions the same just with a lot of extra functionallity. And it's almost as easy to install.

For online capability it<s all there... playstation store, netflix, redbull TV is awesome!!!

But you can get banned if you run homebrew online that is it. But not going online is the same as banned no?

I guess you are right, I already almost never play online but I would like to keep this possibility because i'm not the only one using the console.

I'm reading about something called PSNPatch should I run this kind of stuff immediately after install? To bad he doesn't talk about this in his videos!

I've also read that some games scan you hard drive for CFW files and autoban you, Is there a way to go back to the normal version without leaving traces when I want to play CoD ?

I'm not understanding very well to what extent the changes i'm making are permanent or not

The Dualboot (DB) firmware is an Official Firmware (OFW) . The ONLY difference is that you can RETURN and INSTALL a (4.86) CFW directly (without having to run an exploit again). Install this PUP when you want to be official (for doing things like using PSN) and then re-install your CFW PUP when you want your custom firmware abilities back, such as launching homebrew.

I don't see why anyone use this CFW. Is that what you are using? If you don<t want to run homebrew online DELETE your homebrew before you go online and reinstall if you need later on; less clumsy.

@Magsor When you talk about staying offline, you mean logged out of the PSN account or completely offline no Wifi/Ethernet.

Also when you talk about deleting homebrew you mean the CFW or something installed on top. Can you delete the CFW and go back without leaving any traces? Like when restoring an iPhone or updating the Wii.

Thank you

Saying offline mean retaining LAN capabilities without being on the internet. google the words if you don<t understand.

By deleting homebrew i just mean delete like you would a game it take merely seconds to do that. ALWAYS keep you CFW if sony does not update :whip: neither will youB-)

I've been saying this for years, ever since I got into modding, back in the PS1 era.

If you want to mod your device, which ever device it is, you should always go straight to the source of the information and follow a guide from the people that made the mod possible.

Or at least follow a guide on the site the mod originated from.

If you don't know where the mod originated from, then it's best to get all the information you can from different sources, Google is your best friend when it comes to modding.

I've always said to read written guides first, make sure you know what to do, step by step, before you even begin. If your not sure about a step, or get stuck, then you can ask for help on the Guide Thread. That's why these forums exist.

If you follow a video guide, and need help, it can take hours, days, even weeks for someone to reply to your video comment. And even then, it might just be someone that watched the same video, and has no real idea if his suggestion will help you. Because video guides rarely ever tell you what each step does, or what your actually doing in each step.

They tell you to do this, then do that, but never explain why "Do this" or why "Do that". So you never learn anything. Your just blindly following someone, hoping that everything works out well. Then when you end up with a paperweight, you wonder what went wrong.

But if you knew what each step does, how it effects the device, and how to take steps to prevent issues, you might be able to recover from the problem. Or at least you will be able to post on the forum and give a nice detailed post on what you did, so people can point you in the right direction to help you.

Question for you guys: I have a PS3 that I used MinVerChk on it, i did have my system offline, but I was wondering if it leaves any type of residual files that the PSN could detect? I'm asking because one of my PS3'S got banned and I dont wanna boot up my 2nd one in case it too gets banned as soon as it starts.
