just to clarify about the usb port. you can change the port in startup settings. at some time before v5.4.4 you may have set it to port 1 (the top one) port 0 is the bottom one.

on v5.2.0 force cios defaulted to off which means it uses ios58
v5.40+ force cios defaults to on, but if you already have wiiflow save set with force cios off then its still off and uses ios58
if you delete the wiiflow save file v5.4.0+ will set force cios on. wiiflow uses cios 249 by default.

so with ios 58 you can use either port.
with cios 249 it depends on what cios you have installed in slot 249.
my understanding is d2x v9 and v10 can use either usb port.

back in the old days you could only use port 0 unless you were using a hermes cios.

as for devolution. I really don't know. i think i'm using an older version than you maybe that's why it works for me. or maybe its because i use a sd card and my gc games are on USB. and you only use usb.

also if you did use sd card then you could do debugging. otherwise no way to do debugging.

Which version of devo did you try? I can try the same. I can dig out an SD card to try, does it save a .log file someplace on the card?

EDIT: I'm starting to think this may be related to the latest video changes made to wiiflow, my wii is connected to my smart tv via a hdmi converter (which i think only accepts 480p), i need to further test this out but i'm open to suggestions.
Whilst I'm not sure of your hunch, I have one of those HDMI converters that I used for a while. So I can test if required.

Though, I currently use component to an Extron and then VGA/DVI to a screen so it's a bit of hassle to test.

Does anyone know if you have the possibility to organize emunand games in different plugins according to the respective systems? for example, Nintendo 64 VC plugin for Nintendo 64 VC games; wiiware plugin for wiiware games, etc.

not possible but that would be a nice feature and i was just thinking about that the other day. in other words when you use the emunand plugin or source menu button it would be nice to specify which emunand to use.

As a generic workaround, I custom named all VC games like so...

(N64 ) Legend Of Zelda - Majora's Mask
(N64) Super Mario 64
(NEO) King Of Fighters 96
(NEO) League Bowling
(NES) Super Mario Bros.
(GEN) Alien Soldier
......

A little time consuming, but it works to keep all VC organized together within EmuNand plugin.

Edit:
Sorry, just looked & i have them named like...

*N64* Legend Of Zelda - Majora's Mask
*N64* Super Mario 64
*NEO* King Of Fighters 96
*NEO* League Bowling
*NES* Super Mario Bros.
*GEN* Alien Soldier

I don't think that's necessary, you could just sort them by GameID, since each console gets its own initial letter

Yes that would work but it would not look nearly as clean & they would not be sorted alphabetical.
Example...

ja6e=Zombies Ate My Neighbors
ja7e=ActRaiser
jace=F-Zero
jaee=Donkey Kong Country

I still saw the exact same behavior with both the covers freezing when making the cover file and devolution still giving me 4 blinks
This typically happens when you're using a theme that consumes too much memory. And that issue is worsened if you use snapshots and lots of addons.

Go to your USB and rename the WiiFlow folder to "wiiflow_original" and then go into the apps folder and delete the wiiflow folder from there. Once you've done that you can copy over the official v5.4.4 folders and boot up WiiFlow.

If you do this correctly then there should be no plugins active, you'll see the default WiiFlow theme and covers should save without any issues. Although you are using a USB flash drive, which isn't a recommended storage device as it might not always behave correctly.

Hey, I was using the stock theme with a clean WiiFlow folder deleting my old ones from the drive. 5.2.0 works fine with covers, something changed after that causing issues in each of the versions I've tried. Perhaps it is because I am using USB but it odd that 5.2.0 would behave like butter if that's the case.

It's hard to say because WiiFlow v5.4.0 contains so many changes.

With your recent post you say that it freezes when making the cached cover (the wfc file), which actually happens once a download has already been successfully saved. So it doesn't appear to be a networking issue e.g. your Wii is in bad place to receive a good WiFi connection.

It'd be great if you could try WiiFlow from an SD card or a USB HDD.

sorry i've become ill. possible covid 19. you may have to use the normal wiiflow for a bit longer. unless i magically find time and energy to compile it.

@fledge68 - Sorry to hear that and hope it's not or at least hope you don't get a severe case of it. Feel better soon, have always enjoyed your work.

I just tried using an SD card vs my USB drive, sad to say the behavior was the same.

Take care of yourself and I appreciate the hard work.

so we know that wiiflow is laucnhing devolution. but apparently the args are not being sent to it or they are disappearing because devo just flashes the light as if it can't find the game. possibly a memory issue because wiiflow has gotten bigger in size (bytes) and the args are not being written to mem. i really don't know.

thank you for the kind words.

Edit: since you now have an sd card you could try the debugging write to sd. it might tell us whats going on with devolution.
you need to open wiiflow_lite.ini in a text editor and look under [DEBUG] and set sd_write_log=yes

run wiiflow and try to launch a devolution game. then check the sd card root for a file named wiiflow.log. copy and paste it here.

Did you check your SD card to make sure that WiiFlow was saving the files to that and not your flash drive? Because if it was trying to use your flash drive as a save location then that'd likely explain why the test failed again.

Maybe you could post a system check > https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/

Also, how many covers are you downloading and is there a particular game that the caching process stalls on?
