Would I be relatively safe hacking the second console and only using checkpoint to transfer the save and do nothing else with it? I really only want to transfer over my pokemon via home and now the ban prevented that.

It can still risk a ban. Weigh your Pokemon save data versus your console's online functionality to see which one is more important to you.

indeed nintendo usually only banns a Console and not the account, one of my switches was banned and i just logged in to the new switch no problem

One or two months ago i read about a girl who used checkpoint to update a nsp splatoon save (if i recall correctly, i don't really remember that specific detail) from a banned console to a new one, and the new one was banned in a week or two. Just using checkpoint and injecting a save can upset Ninty, so you should be cautious with that

Messing with splatoon 2 (and other online games) save data is known to cause bans.

But don't you need to go online to unlink your account? You cannot do system transfer from a banned console, since this has to be done via connecting to the online services. Unlinking as well. Only chance might be to call or chat up Nintendo Service and say that you lost access to the console / lost it / had it stolen and they unlink it for you.

You can unlink an account via the website, once per year, even from a banned Switch. Any cloud saves up to the point of ban can be retrieved (assuming paid online), as can any legit purchase.

Also for the record I have used checkpoint to move saves from banned>hacked non-banned>non hacked. Whilst connected to internet on non-banned/non hacked, and changing users of said saves. No bans. Saves were MHGU and Skyrim. Your mileage may vary, as ever only mess around if you're willing to take a ban.

I'd only be transferring over my pokemon save really, maybe my smash and that's it. Both are legit saves too.

@MikeTheory use HDM and checkpoint for transferring the Save from legit - > hack, hack - > legit, 100% safe

U only need checkpoint on the hack one and HDM for both

if you log in to your Nintendo account on their website there's an option in account management to delink all consoles or you can call support and get them to move the account to a new console, just say you forgot to unlink it when you sold it and they just need the serial of the new one and can manually link it

nop not specific for transfering saves between legit -> hack, hack -> legit but its not that hard when u know how to do it
