Steam now has a feature that lets you manually hide games you own on other platforms

If you play a lot of games, there's a good chance you own multiple different platforms, and have an extensive library of titles across your systems. The biggest PC storefront, Steam, seems to understand this, as they've just updated their store pages with a new feature that allows players to mark games as already owned on other platforms. Now, you can stop seeing constant advertisements or recommendations on Steam's home page for games you've already purchased and played on consoles, without putting the game in your ignore list. All you need to do for this is visit any game page on Steam, hover over the ignore tab, and check "played on another platform". Doing this will remove the specified game from your recommendations, but will use it to recommend you other, similar games you might not have tried yet.

Steam is the only one of these sites that "suggest" me purchases that I actually take seriously and look at the recommendations. They REALLY try to make the algo relevant, which I like.

To think there was all that controversy about Epic doing a little scan. Guess if you give it up willingly...
I mean, there's a MASSIVE difference between scanning my directories, copying private information, and encrypting it for their own use without my consent and just clicking a checkbox voluntarily? There is literally no comparison to be made here between the shit EGS pulled and this  The data EGS stole didn't just contain games you owned, but your friend's list on Steam, what you played last, how long you played XYZ etc etc.

As to the news, meh. I never look at my Steam recommendations or anything so not of much use to me, but I guess that's nice.

Stealing a quote from elsewhere,

"Steam and GOG: acknowledges people have preferences and encourages people to buy on the store of their choice

Epic: doesn't want you to have a choice"

Epic: We use spyware and rootkits so we can find out what games you have on your HDDs! Also, we're too stupid to implement a shopping cart!

this system is fucked and it contradicts itself. for instance if you have tags ignored but Because you've played games tagged with or wishlist a game that has similar tags as it or steam thinks it's relevant to you than it will still show you the game even if you told steam to ignore it's tags! :wtf:

If I did this, I'm pretty sure I'd start seeing only tons of the still growing hentai games since that's pretty much all there'd be left... lol

Tell me about it. You own a few visual novels and Steam is like "HERE BUY THIS LEWD SHITTY SHOVELWARE"

...I mean, it's not that there's anything wrong with H-games, but shovelware H-games? Howaboutyeahno.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
