@fledge68 I can assure you that cps2 games are working with the latest retroarch. The stable has an issue with resolution but this nightly is ok : http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/nintendo/wii/2019-07-02_RetroArch.7z
I've tried street fighter alpha and super street fighter II turbo. RAM isn't a problem for cps2. They aren't as big as cps3 or some neogeo titles.
does it work as a plugin with wfl 5.2.0?

they work fine for me launched as retroarch via hbc but not as a plugin.

Some time ago I was reading on these boards that RA 1.0.0.2 was the best choice, cause the new Wii versions had sound problems and introduced other isues.

Then I discovered RA-SS by @SuperrSonic and wanted to try it as a Wiiflow plugin, deleting all my previous RA cfg files.
Some cores like Genplus and Snes9x_next are working, but they are using the same cfg file so I have to manually switch the resolution. Almost all the other dol refuse to work as plugins (not just cps2).
It's a pity, because RA-SS is working perfectly as standalone emulators, and the new out run core is fantastic!
Also there is a nice pce supergrafx core that was missing in 1.0.0.2 (and in current platform.ini)

@Hakaisha Which version are you using? Is every core working for you on Wiiflow?
@Wiimpathy Thanks for the list, I forgot about it. Yes I agree, it would be really a lot of work to test all the nightly builds, and maybe not even worth it. But I didn't mean to do such a thing, I was thinking more about collecting info, from users on this board, of their best working plugin setup.
But I think your list is an excellent starting point.

The sound bug, at least in fba, was fixed last year. The major problem untill very recently is that nobody among retroarch developpers had a Wii to test(!!?). As a result, even some stable release were fucked up. The last one with the resolution switching bug for example.
The situation has improved a lot now. But users reporting the bugs on github would surely help too!

I agree RA-SS is a good alternative with some fixes/improvements. It's an old and slim retroarch version, loads faster and less Ram. The simplified menus are great. No need of an IT degree to understand them like in the official version. But as a plugin, it may not be convenient. No way to have games override cfg (specify resolution or buttons mapping). It's more focused on using it as forwarder channels with a dedicated cfg passed as arguments.

Don't take what I say as the Truth. There's not really a best one as there are advantages/drawbacks in both options.

RA-SS is great but it lacks a few features I found useful for a plugin or just as an emulator:
- No cheats
- No usb controllers (PS3 etc.). Well, it's broken in all the recent retroarch wii too. I'm fixing this stuff right now.
- No Games overrides...untill now. SuperrSonic has just added this option!
- Some core options may be missing.

So now it has game cfg, it really has the essential to run as a Wiiflow plugin.

@SuperrSonic I see you provide a modified and split Neogeo core. Could you share the source code please?

How should I write the path of a dolfile in the plugin's ini configuration file so that it points to a subfolder of /apps instead of having to bury them inside /wiiflow/plugins/? Say, for example, /apps/mGBA/boot.dol. Just like that? I ask because I have only seen dolfile paths written relative to /wiiflow, so I do not know if absolute paths work, and how one should distinguish between the root of the SD and the root of a USB hard disk (I do not contemplate having plugins in a different drive than Wiiflow Lite, but still).

Since plugins are most of the time also valid standalone apps I do sometimes want to use them as such, I had rather Wiiflow use them from /apps, just like Wiiflow uses /apps/Nintendont/boot.dol to launch Gamecube games. That would also make the folder organization and updating things easier to manage.

@Tetsuo Shima i have a little dilemma. i can add snapshots for plugin roms when you select a game cover. it will be displayed where the mini banner normally goes. but you have made banners for dosbox games that show the controls. clicking them enlargers them to make them readable.

i haven't found a way to incorporate your controller banners.

clicking a snapshot to enlarge it will work for your banner images but not normal snapshots.

possibly i could have wiiflow look for a 'Full' subfolder in the snapshots folder. if found (and full image found) display it when the user clicks the snapshot. so you would have to have 2 controller images - mini and full screen.

@fledge68 thanks Fledge, I'm glad you are working on this feature. If you manage to implement full screen snapshots I will be happy to provide mini and full screen images with controls to be used instead of my banners. I will also remove download links from my thread if needed.
But even if you don't succeed in doing this, don't worry too much about my banners:). They are few, and their absence would be the lesser evil, if we can have small snapshots for all plugin games. Maybe there could be another way to show the controls for some games, even as simple text in the game info window?

PS. Here's a video preview for my Rhapsodii Shima theme. It is inspired by hyperspin and emulation station (and obviously by the original Rhapsodii). It's almost ready but there are some little bugs, like wrong emunand background (it's showing the real nand bg instead), and GAME/USER window* not disappearing in flipped cover mode (*the little window with delete, favourites, categories and settings icons) but only for some plugin games

That's extremely impressive, Tetsuo! Truly excellent work! I can't wait to try it out! :yaywii:

I absolutely love how you worked the button guide into the middle of the user_bar, and still manage to fit in the other icons without making it feel overly crowded. It looks perfect. Now you have me rethinking some of my ideas for other themes I'm working on.

Thanks!! Above all, I was hoping in your approval. I invested many hours into this theme and I am by no means an expert in graphics. I'm very happy that you like it

@Tetsuo Shima Looks amazing bud. I may finally have to update to Wiiflow Lite. Just paranoid about something getting screwed up making the move. I'm currently running an old Wiimpathy mod of either v1056 or v1074 lol.
I'm really honored Mastershoes! I don't think you can screw something up making the update, but do a backup of your wiiflow folders just in case. I never tried wiimpathy's mod, but I think you will like the many features added by fledge68. It's really the best loader for me.

Edit: @fledge68 I just downloaded RA 7-9-2019 nightly v1.7.7 and I see there are many cores that I missed before. I never heard some of them, I don't know what they do. I see a new dosbox core too! :O
Do you plan to assign them magic numbers and add the new systems to platform.ini?

maybe

gw is a game and watch emu
cannonball is an enhanced version of outrun
the fix dol's are fix94's emu's he made for GB and NES
theodore is a thomsons 8 bit computer emu

there's intellivision, fuse zx spectrum, dosbx. these wiimpathy has put out his own versions. i'm not sure which is the best. i'm sure wiimpathy probably added some extras to his.

so i haven't even tried them. but they will need magic numbers and added to platform ini.

@fledge68 Thanks. I tried only cannonball and I absolutely love playing outrun with analog controls and perfect emulation.
Ok, so maybe I will add source menu icons and backgrounds for Game and Watch and Thomson 8bit

@Wiimpathy i was using mame-wii but noticed there was no save states on the mame menu, or i don't know how they work.
so i switched to retroarch mame 2000 libretro. noticed donkey kong (and a few other nintendo roms) didn't work. i got a new dkong.zip and it works but missing a few sounds. i tried downloading sample files and put them in sd:/mame/samples but still missing sounds.

am i doing something wrong?

also is your mame2003 plus cores better?

p.s. i also noticed the garbled text on some games such as green beret/rush'n attack. i assume that's fixed in mame 2003 plus.

edit: funny - right after posting this i finally must've googled the correct phrase and found this thread which tells me the samples folder goes in the roms folder.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/where-to-place-samples-folder-for-retroarch-mame2003.526563/

weird how all the retroarch platforms put roms, bios, and samples all in different folders (most of the time). seems like they should all use the same setup.
