RetroArch cores are a collection of emulators. In order to keep them in sync with ongoing development, they have to keep much of their structure intact. It's a real strength.

The "magic numbers" in the plugin and sourceflow files. There are subsets of numbers for SNES, GameBoy, and other non DVD shaped box covers. Search in the this thread and I think the Rhapsodii thread for the numbers.

Yeah, I guess I could steal the magic number from other plugin, but it wouldn't be an elegant solution

    thanks guys

Here is what I am currently using...

    Atari 2600: wii2600 0.2b
    Atari 7800: wii7800 0.3
    Colecovision: wiiColem 0.2

Game Boy Advance: Extrems Enhanced mGBA Latest 06-22-19
(Trying to figure out how to start in "Stretch" screen & new versions of mGBA = Black Screen)

OpenBor: Wiimpathy Latest 09-06-18 (Done Recently - Still Need Art)

Vectrex: Not real sure but it works (.dol date is 04-06-13)

    Virtual Boy: WiiMednafen 0.2pre
    WiiMednafen: WiiMednafen 0.2pre

FBA ARCADE: RA 1002 FBA ARCADE (RA-SS = Black Screen)
    FBA CPS1: RA 1002 FBA CPS1 ^^^^^
    FBA CPS2: RA 1002 FBA CPS2 ^^^^^
FBA NEO GEO: RA FBA NEO ^^^^^
Game Boy: RA 1002 Gambatte .50 (Latest RA-SS = Black Screen)
    Game Boy Color: RA 1002 Gambatte .50 (^^^See Above^^^)
Sega (All): RA 1002 GENSPLUXGX (Sega CD has troubles loading with RA-SS)
    WonderSwan: RA 1002 Mednafen 0928

Atari Lynx: RA-SS Latest (Also using WiiMednafen 0.2pre)
NeoGeo Pocket: RA-SS Latest (Also using WiiMednafen 0.2pre)
    Nintendo: RA-SS Latest FCEUmm
PCEngine HuCard: RA-SS Latest SGFX 941 (Also using WiiMednafen 0.2pre)
PCEngine CD: RA-SS Latest SGFX 941 (Also using WiiMednafen 02.pre)
    Super Nintendo: RA-SS Latest snes9x10

I've tested most of the emulators thoroughly & this is what I am using. The FBA cores I had newer versions working but for one reason or another reverted back to the old RA 1002. I didn't realize it until i read the post & started tinkering with the arcade games again. I usually just use @Wiimpathy
MAME Plus latest or RA-SS FBA stand alone for arcade.

Wow! Thank you for the list.
I too used RA 1.0.0.2 but I recently updated to one of the latest nightly builds and it's working really well, plus some added new cores and the ability to save cores and games overrides. It's just a little buggy to set things up initially, because it tends to crash when switching cores resolution, but once you save the video settings for every platform it's awesome.

    One advice
: if you've got a 16:9 TV, to have the best possible image quality for every game with the latest RA do the following:
Launch the game, open RA menu and go to 'Settings->Video'. Set Aspect Ratio to Custom and turn Integer Scale to Off and then to ON again. Multiplier numbers will appear next to your width and height values. Set them to 2x width and 2x height, with the excepion of Gameboy and such, which are better with 3x,3x. Leave the Screen resolution to 640x480 (it won't be saved anyway), but set Bilinear Filtering to OFF.
Go back and then to 'Quick Menu->Option->Onscreen Overlay'. Choose scanlines.cfg as your preset (and gbgrid.cfg for handhelds), set Opacity to 0.10 and Overlay Scale to 2.00.
You will have the closest feel of a CRT screen on your LCD TV.
Maybe you already knew it, but who knows.

However, I'm not really satisfied about MAME. Some games have glitched sprites and I'm hoping for increased compatibility (I would really like to play Alien Storm, Golden Axe 2, Captain America & the Avengers, Liquid kids and some other). Maybe I should try Wiimpathy's MAME, hoping it will not conflict with my RA installation.

Thank you for the reply. I will certainly use your advice and give the newer RA another go. Are you using this instead of the RA-SS cores for everything? Regarding Wiimpathy MAME Plus. It is a stand alone emulator & has it's own apps & root directory. I made my own channel for it & it is easily the best experience I have ever had using MAME on the Wii and have had no problems conflicting with RA. Golden Axe 2, Captain America, Liquid Kids all work I believe, not sure about Alien Storm. Time to try out that new RetroArch, should I just download the latest nightly since the latest stable is not working correctly as posted?

Awesome @Tetsuo Shima. Thanks for image tip, I did not know of this. I used nightly 7-20-19 RA & everything ran great besides WonderSwan, gave dump after starting a game. I went back to nightly 7-09-19 & WS is fixed. Elated Gambatte is working with all the improvements. I think I'll stick with RA-SS for all working before. Thanks.

Edit: I have WonderSwan dump on 07-09-19 occasionally. Need to test more games, all dumps have occured on Golden Axe.

Thank you for this list, @RunningSnakes. It certainly looks like some of my WFL plugins are long overdue for an upgrade. I’ve really been enjoying RA-SS and have been considering using it for more of my plugins.

Whenever someone can find time, can you please provide a link to Wiimpathy’s standalone MAME Plus that has been mentioned? I can’t seem to find it.

Ok, I reiterate my request here. @SuperrSonic I saw you modified the neogeo core (and maybe other cores). Please could you share your code?

Even if that's minimal changes, it's always better to share...

You can modify any core to have a custom config yourself.

Use an hex editor, open the dol and replace 'retroarch.cfg' by another config name of the same length, 'mame-2003.cfg' here.

Try MAME 2003 Plus Reference search. That should do the trick

Would anyone be able to offer some help? I am trying to setup Wiiflow on my Wii U's vWii to no avail. The original release just crashed with the DSI exception as soon as I launched it. Wiiflow Lite will launch but this is what I am greeted by. I am trying to load games from my SD card. This vWii is freshly modded following the guide on the CFW.guide website. I am about at my wit's end. Any help is appreciated.

You can try these cores : https://gbatemp.net/threads/large-neogeo-games-support-and-cps3-tests.493767/page-2#post-7801828
They should already have custom cfg, so no conflict with other cores.

first off it says not found on usb1:/wbfs. this means you need to go to main settings>partition settings and change the partition to SD. frankly I have no idea why it would even be set to usb unless you have a fat32 usb hdd connected.

second - i think the screen looks like that because you don't have the imgs folder in wiiflow folder with all the images used.

I do not have a USB hdd plugged in so I don't know why it says that. I do have a charger for the Pro Controller plugged in, but that's just a USB cord, not any kind of drive. I have tried to navigate to the settings and make sure the game partition is set to SD, but it doesn't allow me to change it from USB. The SD only check is active if that helps. As for the IMG folder, I have the Wiiflow folder exactly as it is out of the zip. I even tried to redownload the zip and do a clean install. Same result. I am willing to try anything at this point.
