Ok so I was looking around and wondered, why some of the cIOS (at least d2x. If there's more, I'd like to know which) are old compared to the ones that are told to be installed in other guides? (namely complete softmod and wiiguide)

Also why are all the system menu IOS patched? I saw people say that such thing is unnecessary.

I'm not sure where you're looking but I just checked and the Complete softmod guide and wii guide both instruct you to use the d2x cIOSs. If any guide you find is using something different it's outdated or inferior. If you're referring to d2x v8 final versus v10 beta 52 or 53 the differences are minor, in fact beta 52 is the same as v8 final, and beta 53 trades off compatibility in order to use both USB ports for USB loading. V8 final is optimal, but if you want to install beta cios's you can instruct modmii to do so by typing "beta" on modmii classic's download page 4 and selecting a different version of d2x cios. ModMii was the original d2x cios installer (in fact the X in d2x stands for XFlak), so it should be no surprise that it can build beta releases hosted on the d2x repository.

A patched system menu IOS has a few advantages and the wii community generally agrees its the way to go (nothing I did with ModMii was dictated, but rather I incorporated widely believed best practices into ModMii). One such advantage to installing a patched IOS60 into all SM slots is extra brick protection. This will protect against downgrade bricks in newer LU64+ consoles, or 003 bricks when region changed originally Korean wii's are upgraded. Most people don't know whether their console falls under these categorizes, so using the system menu IOSs supplied by ModMii could be protecting consoles that otherwise would've bricked and you wouldn't even know it.

Been trying to search for this, but have had no luck. I'm trying to create a forwarder channel to launch a homebrew app (RetroArch) off of my USB drive.
The ModMii forwarder maker gives me the option to make a SD\USB Forwarder. When I do so, it only asks me to specify a path, and not whether it is on the SD card or the USB drive. My first assumption was to try a path like USB:apps/retroarch/boot.dol, but it says that : are invalid. I tried making one with "apps/retroarch/boot.dol" (I created a wad from the .dol with CustomizeMii), assuming it would try the USB drive after not finding the app on my SD card, but launching the forwarder only gave me a black screen. I tried again with "USB/apps/retroarch/boot.dol" and "USB:apps/retroarch/boot.dol" and still got a black screen.

tl;dr, how can I make a forwarder that points specifically to the USB drive?

Ok thanks for clarifying.

Lastly I want to know if these ones are up to date:

cIOS202[60]-v5.1R
cIOS222[38]-v4
cIOS223[37-38]-v4
cIOS224[57]-v5.1R

There should be examples on the screen for you to follow. I'm working from memory but I think it should be something like

USB:/apps/etc.

In your examples you tried USB:apps and USB/apps but never USB:/apps

Well that was something obvious I should have tried. Nevertheless, I still got the same result, nothing but blackscreen and an unresponsive wiimote.

EDIT: Tried loading the .dol right from the homebrew menu and it simply returned me back to it, so it's not the wad I'm making

Do you have another forwarder that works for a different app? If so, try temporarily moving retroarch to the location of your working forwarder to see if the issue is truly with the dol or something with retroarch. Some apps and forwarders just don't play well together, but this sounds like a first

Edit: or perhaps a better test would be to temporarily replace the dol in the retroarch folder with something else (a USB loader or wad manager or whatever app) and see if the forwarder u created works under those conditions. If it does, the issue isn't with the forwarder exactly, but rather that retroarch needs a customized forwarder for some unknown reason

Hmm, seems you're right. Throwing mGBA in there works perfectly.
Is there a way to only edit the path of an existing forwarder? I've found a RetroArch forwarder that seems to work, but it points to the SD card.

RetroArch forwarder (tested: works both for Wii and vWii) !

Works with the following path: SD :\apps\retroarch-wii\boot.dol
(maybe other paths supported)

U sure you just don't have the path wrong? You've indicated that the working forwarder path is "\retroarch-wii\" and in your earlier examples you said you tried "\retroarch\"

Assuming that's not it, you could try hex editing the working forwarder dol. But if it's not built to support usb it probably won't make a difference.

There are some forwarders I could just never get working from USB. I think it was genplusgx or Sega master system emulator or something... I just accepted it and moved on

I'm not familiar with other versions. The versions used by ModMii are tried tested and true. There have been some versions that can brick consoles, priiloader itself was fine but the installer sometimes crashed midway in the install and bricked consoles without bootmii installed as boot2. Had to do with some old ahbprot web init bug. And there was an older version of preloader that lead to bricks as well if I'm not mistaken. Newer doesn't always necessarily mean better. Heck one of the updated versions of priiloader had an updater built in, priiloader isn't something u should be updating frequently. There's risks associated with updates to the system menu and priiloader and system menu ios that unless u have one of the launch wii's with bootmii installed as boot2. Even if the only risk is the risk of power loss at a critical moment why bother if the current version works just fine. I dunno, I'm of the mind that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hi i am planning to use The Region changer on the ModMii program to a US 4.3 region from a Japanese (4.3) one. The main reason i want to do this is because the language of the menu in my console is in Japanese and there is no option to change it to English on its system settings.

So my questions are:
1. Is the region changer on the ModMii compatible to any kind of Wii (Mine is an RVL-001 Wii.) and any kind for firmware version (4.3J)?
2. What are the disadvantages of using a region changer on my Wii?
3. After changing region is it safe to do a system reset/format?
4. After changing region is it safe to restore a backup of my nand using bootmii? (The backup is from when i haven't region changed yet.)
5. After changing region is it safe to redo the soft-modding of my Wii? (Just in case)
6. What should and should i not do after changing my region?

1) yes, but the version of any region Changer included in modmii does not currently support wiimote plus remotes, if this is an issue for you, use this version https://gbatemp.net/threads/help-test-new-tools-for-modmii-please.533855/

Note that it's just during the region change, afterwards games and other things will continue to support both kinds of remotes

2) just the risk of bricking during the change, but as long as u follow the guide closely, the only real risk is losing power at a critical moment, and even then if u have bootmii installed as boot2 you're fine

3) yes

4) yes

5) yes, it's actually recommended to reinstall things like priiloader which would have been uninstalled during the region change process

6) don't run over your wii with a truck... seriously this happened to someone I know I real life, lol
