Hello!

I have PS4 remote play working just fine on my 5.05 if I am on my network using PS4REN. But is there any way I can play it outside my network? Surprisingly, google isn't giving me much. I would like to use either my laptop (Windows) or my Vita. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You could setup a VPN server at home and then connect to that with your laptop.

Your vita would probably need to be tethered to something that is connected to your VPN. You might find a battery powered wireless hotspots that can do it, or you might be able to use your laptop.

Thank you for the reply! I don't have a VPN. Is this something I'd have to pay a monthly fee for just to use my PS4 from a location outside my home?

There are two things you need.

1. a computer, nas or router that is turned on at home, connected to the internet and running a VPN server.

2. your internet routers external ip address (what you get when you visit whatsmyip.com), either write down before you leave the house and hope it doesn't change before you get home (which it probably won't), setup dynamic dns (every time your external ip address changes then it gets sent to a free server) or pay for a static ip address (it won't ever change).

Thanks so much. I have a computer that is on 24/7. It is running Windows 10. I use it as my Plex server. Is there anything I can use on that to do what you are saying? Do I have to pay for this type of VPN? I don't do torrenting or anything so it would be the only thing I'd ever use a VPN for, so I am hoping there is a free option for this sort of thing?

I've not setup a VPN server on windows 10, but google threw up this https://pureinfotech.com/setup-vpn-server-windows-10/

All you're using it for is to connect back home, so you shouldn't need to pay anything. But anything you route over the VPN onto the internet will use your home ip address, so it's no good for hiding your torrenting etc.

You can usually select whether you want internet traffic to go direct to the internet or through your VPN, the first option is usually faster as it avoids a roundtrip to your house and you may not have a fast upload speed. But routing everything through your VPN means you can't be eavesdropped at the network you're connected to (library, mcdonalds etc).

I understand this all seems pretty complex & there is a load of stuff that can go wrong. Some ISPs don't allow you to setup VPN servers (intentionally or through a mistake they aren't willing to fix). But it's fun to do.

I had a VPN years ago, but I went through a period where it stopped working and I never bothered trying to get it going again.

Thank you so much! I have zero experience with setting up a VPN even though I am fairly good with networking stuff. Is there a guide out there on getting it to work for the PS4 remote play?

If you connect your laptop to your home VPN, then it should be just the same as being at home.

@BigOnYa well, starting with, idk which emulator should i use for switch, i got a gtx 1650, do you know which one would it better for my pc?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
The switch emulators on pc rely on your CPU mostly, and they only use a single core, so GPU not as important as a good CPU. I don't use switch emulator, but many here do, and willing to help.
