With the ppsspp core from reading the retroarch forums it seems like there might be other files needed from the ppsspp website to work. Not sure if that’s what’s causing the problems on the xbox or not.

It's because retroarch on Xbox doesn't have opengl just yet. I guess once that's sorted we will be good to go

Are there any plans to implement opengl support on retroarch at the moment out of curiousity?

Angle is the option they're considering, it will convert opengl to dx11 so the Cores that require it should work :)
But remember there hasn't even been an official Retroarch release yet. So that's future stuff :P

But if the actual developers of retroarch are considering it, then that is what we need

Anybody hang indefinitely when using the new file location picker? I can't set any custom destination on my 6tb USB hdd at all (drive was set as 'media) in the xbox formatting options.

Maybe cos of the size of your drive. Just a possobility. I don't have too much of a hang with my 1tb

Could be, I will get round to trying something smaller soon and see if it sorts it out, I've been a retroarch user for many years so I like to replicate my setup on every device possible with my own locations.
Thanks.

Will have to give it some time this is still early stages for Xbox but I'm completely with you on that thought. Xbox/ps4/switch ;)

I had this happen to me. When I installed the latest build, I went right to the directory settings to point stuff over to my hard drive - file picker would never load, the screen would just go dim for a second, and then nothing. I eventually said whatever, went straight to 'Load Content' to try out snes stuff - that's when I chose the 'Open..' option and it finally brought up the file picker, and after that, file picker worked in settings. No idea what happened or why that worked, but it's all good now.

Do you have RetroArch set as an app or game? When it's installed as a game it works a bit differently than if it is installed as an app.

for example when launched the load content has a open... item but if you install retroarch as a game instead of an app it gives you full permission so theres no need to keep opening the hdd for permission everytime :)

One thing to note about having Retroarch installed as a game - in the Xbox Device Portal, I enabled a setting to automatically install all new apps as games, and indeed, Retroarch showed up as a 'game' on the Xbox One. However, I still had to grant USB hard drive access permission to Retroarch every time I restarted it. On my Xbox, I changed Retroarch from Game to App, and then back to Game, and I stopped getting the permission nag.
