Wii U is not big (yet I hope) in Homebrew scene but take a lot of advantages of Wii Homebrew like overclock and play Wii/GC games with gamepad. Is everything stable for now and we dont expect more updates to block hack. Be Banned like @ry755 said Is just for cheating online I think, but at all is everything ok

Will it get you banned: Only if you cheat in online multiplayer.

Is it unstable: If it works fine normally, it works while hacked. Poorly made mods & homebrew might crash, but that's it.

Ok, got it, but

If it crashes, can it brick or something?

Also, remember when Nintendo launched a new System Update for no reason with it only saying "We've made some improvements and bug fixes."
I think Nintendo tries to implament something.

No. the 5.5.2 update was ELUA changes. And Also no it can't brick if it crashes. (unless it crashes when installing a application. But that is impossible.) But if your running something like mocha cfw using webrowser hax, yah there is absolutely no chance to brick. Mostly because a lot of wiiu exploits and homebrew only function in memory. Meaning it's not permanent. (Exploits like haxchi, coldboothax, and I guess webrowser are semi permanent. As they require to be ran to have signpatches, unlike let's say the 3ds where you turn it on and immediately have signpatches)

There's always a risk of a ban whenever you hack your consoles, but then again, I don't think Nintendo cares about the Wii U that much, (unless you cheat online.)

This would only happen if it crashed while updating the firmware. There probably won't be any more updates for the Wii U.

5.5.2: Patched browserhax, but only kind-of, so we just use less stable browserhax.
5.5.3: EULA change, and only in Europe. Side effect: disabled CBHC on European Wii Us, but it could still be launched and reinstalled.
