Homebrew Accidentally deleted BACKUP.BIN during boot9strap set-up

Hello.

I was wondering whether anyone could help me as I've accidentally deleted my BACKUP.BIN file during setup. Now, the boot9strap stops because it can't verify the file.

Any idea how to fix this? It's a softmod, by the way.

Have you ran "install boot9strap" yet?

Yes, I did to install boot9strap the first time, but I deleted the boot9strap folder on the 3DS SD card when it wouldn't boot to Luma3DS. Now, it crashes without even getting to the 'install boot9strap' option again.

I haven't yet, no. I had a feeling it'd be a common issue, hence why I posted on here. Hopefully, someone has an answer for us.

It's worth the investment because it does future proof your system, it would also make fixing this issue a lot easier. What method are you using right now to boot into into the installer?

The boot9strap folder is only needed during install. If you successfully installed boot9strap it should just be a matter of placing the Luma3DS boot.firm on SD: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases

The boot9strap folder is only needed during install. If you successfully installed boot9strap it should just be a matter of placing the Luma3DS boot.firm on SD: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases

So, just stick the Luma3DS boot.firm on the first screen of the SD card in File Explorer?

If this backup.bin was deleted from your SD card, you try scanning for it with a recovery program.

Try EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard (Free) that's good up to 2 GB of retrieval.

Edit - Added some other popular options:

• MiniTool Power Data Recovery (Free Trial)
• Wondershare Data Recovery (Free Trial)
• Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery (Free Trial - for Mac OS)

Cheers. I'll try that out. I've already tried EaseUS (with no success), so I'll give the other two Windows ones a try.

EDIT: I appear to have found the file with MiniTool, although I can't recover the file with the free trial - onto Wondershare, then.

EDIT #2: Ditto with Wondershare. I'll retry EaseUS. The deleted file appears to be called _ACKUP.BIN.

EDIT #3: BACKUP.BIN recovered. Now, to get around this apparent write-protection which seems to have come up in the last day or so.

Don't use the BACKUP.BIN if EaseUS determines the file you recovered is damaged. That software will mark an incomplete or corrupted file with a warning tag.

If the free trials won't do, either purchase or resort to other means in acquiring said recovery programs.

If your SD card is the one that's having write protection and it's not due to a slider pin lock (found on standard sized SD card), your card may be dead.

I'd accidentally changed the slider pin lock, so now it's fixed.

Just checked all of the releases again and there's now a version which doesn't use the BACKUP.BIN file, so I'm now fixed up. Cheers all.

If you download the latest versions of boot9strap (I think), it will skip it for you.
