Reading in the guide is saying that I should make sure my switch has the exfat update present. In my case I did not install the exfat update that the switch prompts. That my be the issue. I just hope if I do that it does not upgrade my switch past 4.1 I have it in airplane mode anyways
Then make sure your sd card is formatted in fat32 and not in exfat cause that will be the issue then. You can also do an exfat update btw without updating your system but it's a long painful guide.

Hmm, but the guide is explicitly saying that the sd card should be in exfat format..

Oh well, I can try fat32 and see if it works.

Yes, specially if you are using an exfat formated card right now. Switch wont be able to boot to CFW. Same thing happened to me yesterday.

Better get the exfat update and use an exfat formatted sd card since “back ups” are mostly 4GB and above(which, afaik, the limits of an FAT32 formatted drive)

That would work, but the same issue i mentioned above will be there. You wont be able to copy 4GB and above file size to your sd card if you are using fat32. Unless you are planning to FTP all nsp to the sd card.

So how did you get the exfat update? Did you have to follow the guide not to update your switch FW as well?

I turn on my switch, put the sd card(exfat), switch notifies me that it needs an update inorder for exfat to work, i click update. Thats it
But he wants to keep his older firmware intact for downgrading purposes probably so he can't do it that way but i'm not sure anymore myself. I think it would be fine with that firmware that he has

Ordered the NS-atmosphere dongle last night, hope it arrives quickly as I’m now no longer an Android user and it’s tedious lugging around a laptop just in case the switch shits a brick while away from home!

I paid $40 for my SX Pro, and I feel I've gotten my money's worth out of it and then some. It's nice and small, takes up no space in my Switch case, and charges in a few seconds. The jig is also very high-quality, and much better than the 3D-printed paperclip garbage that could potentially ruin my pins.

I fully agree that SX Pro has made a nice product and easy to use and XCI loader has less banning potential :)

I dont have SX Pro so i cant really compare. What I can say is this 15dollar dongle fits easily in my case, dont need charging unless battery is dead, jig is solid, good tutorials and only $15.
Anyways, in my case I got more money's worth from my $15 imo. Just a matter of costs and benefits, both of which is influenced by personal opinion.

I have the same style case, just the Splatoon 2 version. The zipper pocket is a life saver, and the game cases with microSD cases are good added bonuses!

Aliexpress tells me that the dongle has arrived.
Just to know from people who received it, is it in a letter or a case or something?

Swapped over from my nasty hack-job with my RCM-X86 dongle board to the SwitchMe internal chip yesterday, no more slight case bulge and I can change payloads any time! Highly recommend this setup to anyone who can hold their hand still enough to solder to some of the tiny areas!

So because my USB C port was broken I texted the guy who makes these and he gave me 2 new ones so now I have 3 dongles for the price of one. And those other 2 work perfectly fine while the older ones works but only through usb mini
