Hardware White new 3ds POPS then shuts off

I have an uncommon model of 3ds - I have a white "NEW" 3ds that was only released in NA as a part of limited edition bundles. Mine came with Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer.

Anyways, my kids keep dropping the damn thing, my 1 year old dropped it then after the battery popped out, she put it in her mouth. I think she either messed the battery up (is that possible?) Or ruined one of the ribbon cables that connect to the top screen because it keeps randomly shutting off. It seems like it does this mostly when the hinge is touched so most likely it's the cable? What are the chances it's the battery? The time doesn't reset.

If its the cable then I'm SOL, I don't have the skills to repair it myself and it doesn't appear anyone on ebay can repair this particular model. Nintendo can't repair it unless I can somehow hide the b9s hax. So what does everybody else think?

From what i've seen before, this is indeed a broken ribbon cable. I don't know if there is another thing it could be, but the only way there could be of fixing it is by actually repairing the ribbon cable. Maybe make a NAND Dump and a microsd backup and try to see if you can get it clean someway to send it to Nintendo?

I forgot to add that it still works but randomly pops then shuts off. Really annoying.

Internal component or ribbon cable damaged probably, it is safety precaution that it shut down on it own.

As for your n3DS popping noise, you should stop playing it and remove the battery.

Everything time you let it pop brings it closer in killing the motherboard. Your mostly likely damaged part is the speaker flex cable.

It happens, it was only for a few seconds until I got it away from her. Kids do worse stuff than that. My other kid stabbed himself in the face with a fork somehow. I keep my 3ds away from her now, but the damage is done it seems.

Like what @TurdPooCharger said , perhap you should bring your kid to see a doctor, little kid putting li-ion battery in their mouth is really bad.

Wow. $85 plus tax. That was a bit more than I was wanting to pay, especially considering there's no guarantee they will repair it with homebrew on it. I guess the most logical choice is buying new....

It's not a hyperbole because full grown men have died sticking those 9-Volt E type batteries on their tongues in stupid dares. Li-ion are typical 3.7 V, which doesn't seem like a lot because of the number but you can be in a world of pain with that much.

Kids are going to be stupid, regardless. Just know some mistakes have no second chances.

It's not a hyperbole because full grown men have died sticking those 9-Volt E type batteries on their tongues in stupid dares. Li-ion are typical 3.7 V, which doesn't seem like a lot because of the number but you can be in a world of pain with that much.

Kids are going to be stupid, regardless. Just know some mistakes have no second chances.

Thank you for your help. Those links will help me out. I guess there's not much to lose by attempting to fix it myself when I'm sitting here considering buying a brand new 2ds as a replacement. Yes I know batteries are bad, like I said it isn't left in her reach any longer. This incident was around 5-6 weeks ago btw. Parenting is about growing and learning from your mistakes.

Yah, go for the old 2DS. Those were specifically built to be child damage resistant.

Other than lacking 3D and new 3DS stuff, it's quite nice TBH.

I had a 2ds for a few months a few years ago and it was quite honestly one of the best handhelds I had ever owned. I regret paying for this new 3ds big time, not only is it broke now, it was massively overpriced and the game that came with it sucked anyway. Oh and the faceplate support was almost non existent so there's that!

I'm gonna call bullshit on that claim. No way is a 9-volt battery capable of killing a person, no matter how full grown or where they stick it, unless it blocks their windpipe or something. There's simply not enough amperage in there to electronically do more than tingle on the tongue (and I've done this numerous times, it's not a "stupid dare" it's just a simple way to tell if it has any juice left or is completely dry).

FFS - he said this happened weeks ago. If there was anything wrong with her there would be obvious symptoms by now. There is nothing to be gained in a check-up at this stage than wasting valuable medical resources. Your suggestion that he is a bad parent because of a slight accident is either naive as you don't have kids or just stirring for the sake of it. He seems like a pragmatic and rational parent to me (from this limited thread).

@Toasty My kids unfortunately immersed their n3ds in water and the same thing happened to theirs. I'm guessing a short on the board somewhere.

If the battery-mouth incident was a recent event, I would agree. This conversation would have a gone in a much worse tangent. All forms of communication and help would have stopped much sooner.

After a month's time and no harm arose since then, I don't think going to the doctor would have changed much except further shaming. Besides, he could come back tomorrow and say "hey guys! Doc says the kiddo's all good." without having done so.

I take it some reasonable people are frustrated this happened. Good.

And that we all hope for @Toasty and his kids' sake is that such an incident won't happen again, right?

Hmm, I see that you're right about the 9 Volt battery. After doing some research, it states 9 Volt will not or should not harm a typical healthy adult.

Maybe I'm mistaken in the details that licking a 12V lantern battery is the one that can kill you?

While I don't mind admitting I'm wrong here, why any reasonable person wants to put a battery in their mouth is beyond my comprehension, unless this was the Tie Pods before they were cool.

Well he is a pretty bad parent if he let his one-year-old baby suck on battery that contains acid inside, the doctor thing was a safety precaution, if he doesn't care about his kid, then he is an awful parent, a helicopter parent would be all over the kid, it is just moral, and he failed at parenting, to us we feel he care more about the 3ds than his kid, I would more even shock that probably his wife doesn't know about it.

I get your concern, but I still think you made a lot of assumptions about his parenting abilities on the basis of what he said was a momentary accident - which happens with all kids. He DID NOT say he let his one year old suck on it has you suggest, he made it quite clear it was an accident. You just seemed to make a massive drama out of nothing and I'm not sure for what reason other than to stir and make him feel bad. It just seemed... unnecessary.

Also, I'm not sure why you are now suggesting his wife doesn't know or how he failed at parenting. More unsubstantiated conjecture?

Well he said the kid put the battery in her mouth, that what he said. Im not trying to make it into some sort of drama, the point is we shouldn't help him if he doesn't care about his own kid.

It's always the people without kids who think they're perfect parents, right? I asked about a 3ds because this is a gaming forum, not a parenting forum. She's fine, I've taken her to all of her checkups and she is developmentally advanced for her age. Thank you for your concern but I'm a perfectly capable parent.
