Nintendo reveals Super Smash Bros Ultimate Limited Edition, shows off special Pro Controller

IMG_0690.JPG

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was shown to be getting a special edition in the U.K., which will come with a steelbook and GameCube controller + adapter. Now, the North American website for the game has updated to showcase a limited edition for that region, which consists of a steelbook and a limited Switch Pro Controller. The controller is white and black, with a Smash logo on the face of the gamepad. While it's unavailable to pre-order right now, Nintendo says a list of retailers will be revealed later. You'll also be able to purchase the controller on its own. This special edition will release the same day that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does, on December 7th.

Update: Now for pre-order at Best Buy with the price of $139.99.

A game, steel book to encase the game and a controller with the game branding logo... for $140

$60 game
$70 controller
$10 steel case

I'm more concerned when they gonna lower the price of the controller, it's so expensive, it cost more than the game does. :wtf:

I didn't even get to the part of how underwhelming this is considering other special editions cost less and even offer more stuff.
tbh i hope they would add more i say it's too expensive, but the price does seem to add up.

Excuse me? $140 for the game, an aluminium case, and a recolored controller? Assuming the game and controller is $120, what the fuck is that extra $20 for?
Switch Pro controllers are $70, the game is $60, the steel case is well $10 cause why else? :ninja:

no octagonal gate? not suitable for smash then...
I would like to know why that is.

does this pro controller have the refined dpad? it's not extremely frustrating with the regular one, but it could be with a fighting game.

You hoping they make wavebird popular again. :P

I mean Honestly I didn't know the game cube controller was so popular in the first place. I wouldn't bother using it unless i had to but that's just me, I'm the person who even used his 3ds to play smash bros on the wii u game, hope I can do that with switch too. The use of many controllers made it unique to me even if most people only stuck with one type. :ninja:

the gamecube controller will probably go down in history as one of the best, especially in the ergonomic sense, controllers out there.
and the button layout was just incredibly nice for smash. miles and miles ahead of the cross-shaped controls on the 3ds, switch and any other console.
not that it was perfect, it wouldn't have hurt if there was a 10-20% larger version for bigger hands.
and the dpad, rarely utilized for good reason, could have been better.
but it was great nontheless. and if you play smash with it for 5 minutes, you'll never feel comfortable with the other thing again

in smash, players use many many different angles, not just 8. games go fast and theres is no time to watch the controller to know if im hitting the right angle or not, so controller notches help to find the needed angle ;) hope it`s clear

urgh. why didn't they reveal a special wireless gc controller for this?

do we really want all these cables around anymore?
i get it, pro lamers think that half a frame of delay gives them advantage, but I just want comfort here.
I think they tested all the controller options for Smash for Wii U, and all of them had a 7 frame input delay. Unless Switch does something wrong (See PS4 and how they messed up PS4 wired controllers), there shouldn't be a "superior" option. The wired option may only be better if the wireless interferes with a million other people's setups at a large tournament or something (I don't even know if that's still a thing).
The most important thing is to have a decent TV. For example the best option for Melee was CRT (probably because it's a low res game). Melee on CRT on a GameCube had something like 3.6-5.0 frames of input delay, and an LCD TV can add 2-9 frames. That's a range of basically 2-3x more lag. That can be felt.
Smash Ultimate is made for High Res TVs, so as long as you don't get a garbage display, everything should be fine.

I guess that's a fair point. I guess just never noticed that problem but I can understand since it's common in fighting games with people using arcade fight sticks. Then again I use D-pad when playing most fighting games and wish this one would let me too. (Only reason I see why it wouldn't cause of stuff like tilt controls for walking, running and attacking, but didn't stop that from being a thing in brawl using wiimote)

I have played the game with it, in 2002 when I had a gamecube, and super smash bros melee. I got Brawl on wii and I used the classic controller, and on wii u i use the game pad, or 3ds or pro controller. I'll be using the switch pro or joycons for the new game. It's not to sound offensive but I can't grasp buying a retro controller for one game, it's only intended to be used with smash bros just like it was on wii u.

I know it works on the switch in many games already since people posted videos about it with the update months ago, but it's limited since it is missing extra buttons and no motion controls which switch games are designed around. If the switch will make games designed for gamecube controls then it may be nice to have but for one game is really a stretch no matter how "definitive" people makes it out to be, and it's always associated with smash bros anyway. At least on wii there was games that used the camecube controller like sonic riders zero gravity, some compilation games, being able to play gamecube games on wii in the first place with backwards compatibility and virtual console. Wii u has such things including wii game compatibility and virtual console and never had support for the adapter accessory.

Not really liking the look of the controller, but I will be pre-ordering the European bundle for that GameCube controller. (Mostly because it is new, not like I cant find a cheap one around where I live.)

So you can get the controller without Smash LE, but you can't get Smash LE without the controller? I'll probably have to pass then, would've preferred to buy the steelbook with a couple little extras for around $80. I've already got a Pro controller and GCN controllers.

I dunno, guess ask nintendo as if they will actually answer that. (Probably making up from lost money of wii u commercial failure) same way they charge Full price for a port. :ninja:

In Europe prices are published already including all taxes (e.g. VAT), in USA the published price does not include sales taxes/etc, and those have to be paid additionally to the label price.
E.g. in Europe if it says 70€ you go to the cashier and pay 70€. In the USA it says $60, you go to the cashier and pay $60+taxes, with the taxes depending on where you live.

amazon.us and ebay say smash is 60 euros and they dont charge you extra taxes, you only pay for the shipping after the 60 euros. so yeah i dont think the 60$ are untaxed tbh or the game price would be very weird to pay since it would do a weird number.
