Hacking Please help, Bootrom 8046 error on power on, for 2 - N3DS units.

Have 2 N3DS units in this state: (Both a9hl)

Both when you power them on they get the blue screen with:

Bootrom 8046
Errcode: 00F800FE
00000000 00000000
00000400 00000000

They are both hardmodded with a USB port, if I connect them to a computer and power them on (like I would normally do if I wanted to back the NAND up or reflash)

I get:

00000000 00000000
00000400 00000000

And Windows does NOT pop up a box asking me if I want to format the drive, like it normally does. And Win32DiskImager does NOT recognize it. (for BOTH of these N3DS units)

One of my kids somehow got both of these into this state, not exactly sure how. They said they were playing a certain game (same game) on both right before it happened, this game they have used many other times before.

I have 3rd working N3DS here that is hard modded, and when I plug in the same USB cable and connect to windows and boot it, it gives the

Bootrom 8046
Errcode: 00F800FE
00000000 00000000
00000400 00000000

But is accessible with Win32DiskImager (can read and write the nand), so I know my hardmod setup for the PC side is fine still.

Any idea what I can do with these 2 in this state to recover them, or what could be going on here?

Did your kid plug in higher voltage power supply into the 3DS, 3DS use 4.6V and 0.9A, anything higher than that might have damaged the eMMC controller that control Nand and SD card Adapter.

My kid just told me they plugged a USB cable into the USB charger into my micro usb hardmod port on both N3DS units.

Would that do it.

So the question now, is when a hardmodded N3ds that has a micro USB port wired to the N3ds, if you plug it into a USB charger, is the N3ds toast at this point? I assume the MMC or whatever it is called is gone now.

And that is why it is NOT detectable.

If voltage was apply on the hardmod port then it means that it most likely fried the eMMC controller onboard, that why you get the bootrom 8046, I also have a hardmod 3ds but I only get 8046 if I connect the adapter and plug in the SD Adapter into the computer.

Depends on who modded it, mine isn't Micro USB port, mine has the 4 pins wire connector.

Curious why you say I should never of hard modded? This was when the N3DS units were new, and I actually used the hardmod a few times over these two units lifetimes. Where I re-flashed the original nand back, or reflashed a backup while I was messing around with something that did not go right. They actually came in handy several times. (the hardmod)

Well they are little kids, at least you modded it yourself, so it doesn't cost yourself too much as opposed to hiring someone to mod it for you. Wouldn't be too bad if you had case blocking the modded port.

If you are familiar with the ntrboot method. Then all consoles are vulnerable to it. Unless nintendo was to make new consoles with a new bootrom. There is not a way to patch that on any firmware they make.

Thanks that is good to know, I will learn about that then and at least I can replace these then and get back to the same level of being hacked. I was a little worried we were at a point that there was no window. Guess I have to rearch ntrboot then.

Just take a look at https://3ds.hacks.guide for all your options.
That's the only guide you should be looking at, don't trust any others. Especially youtube vids.
