Marvel Ultimate Alliance games suddenly pulled from all digital storefronts

ApuYSyM.png

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a superhero action RPG published by Activision, originally released in 2006. Ten tears later, it, and its sequel both were re-released on modern platforms. On July 26, 2016, you could purchase Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. Now, exactly 2 years after, the games have been pulled from all three digital storefronts. The reason for the sudden de-listing is likely due to licenses expiring, since it was removed specifically two years after its release, and another Activision superhero game, Deadpool, has also had this happen in the past. If you bought either game in the past, you should still be able to download it and play it, and if you didn't, you can still buy physical copies.

then eventually they will pull it from the server then what?
Have we ever had a case where a game is pulled from storefronts and purchased libraries? PT is the ONLY one I can think of. Even the Simpsons Arcade game and Scott Pilgrim, infamous pulled games, can still be played if you bought them. It's a sketchy thing, and you never really own your games, but it's not like owning digital games means everything will disappear.

Think about the Wii situation. The store is no longer up, and you have up until Jan 30th 2019 to redownload your purchases before the store is gone forever.
Eventually all consoles will act the same, no matter how many years ahead that may be

Yeeeah...I feel like if any digital distribution platform was on the verge of collapse to the point of being unable to afford server costs, we'd see it coming from a mile away. Most would be kind enough to warn their customers well in advance so they could download and backup their libraries.

Also, there are DRM-free copies of most games available for sale at GOG. So that's not the greatest excuse for piracy. Not that one needs an excuse other than being young and poor, I know what that's like.

I’m not surprised; M:UA never struck me as being a particularly popular series, even during its prime. The remasters must not have turned a decent enough profit to justify renewing the license between Disney and Activision.
Sure would be nice if companies warned us about this stuff in advance, though... At least I was able to buy the (digital) Xbox 360 version of UA1 shortly after it was relisted.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
