OP
i want to dump my own games (got a lot of them) and i want to have them as installable NSP files.
Can i somehow dump my cart to NSP? Or is there any way to dump to XCI and convert that file to NSP?

That would be awsome tbh.

There is absolutely no need to convert a cartridge dump to NSP, as NSP are Eshop game files, and are easy to obtain. As far as I remember, it is possible to extract your carts to romfs/exefs. However it would be much simpler (as in more documented for beginners) to download an nsp from Nintendo CDN, then extract that to use with layeredfs. It is against forum rules for me to link to any sites containing nsp files, so you’ll have to find those on your own (google is your friend for the process), however I can link you to CDNSP, which can pull games from the eShop and pack them to NSP files. It can be found here (this is the GUI version): https://gbatemp.net/threads/cdnsp-gui.510406/ The process to use an NSP with LayeredFS can be seen here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/play-nsp-eshop-games-via-hekate-layeredfs-without-sx-os-devmenu.511765/

    designed for only specific hardware

Didn't see much need for a console, all the advantages have kind of disappeared
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
the ps3 used to support installing linux because the cpu was so powerful
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Then the games are $70 and they want to reboot and refresh the same game every year
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
The ps3 was always Linux they just found a way to make it open source
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
I'm avoiding buying from the big 3 at all atm

At one point PC game pads where poorly supported, loading a game had setup, it was complicated. Now it's almost as easy as a console.
