Hello Gbatemps community.
I would appreciate if you could help me gather all the info i need to hack my ps3 in the best way possible.

A friend of mine will sell my his 80Go , ps2 compatible, fat ps3 for a good price and as i did some research it seem it would be possible to soft hack it and install cfw to run backup and homebrew. I didn't had much time to learn about the ps3 scene wich seem to have a ton of different cfw, hack method and everything else.

So for a noob like me, what would be the best hacking method / cfw / other solution to get my ps3 to run most of the backup and what will i need ?

I will edit the post with more info about the ps3 later.

Thanks again for your help and sorry to bother any of you that will think i'm a lazy piece of s***.

Plenty of guides out there, I think I hacked mine with a guide on reddit. r/ps3homebrew or something.
That one of the problem. there is too much guide, too many way. I would like to know if there is something better than the rest or what the main difference are between the most popular choice.

Well I can't help you there. Just look for something that is actively updated and recent and you should be alright. Don't use a video guide. I've used many different guides for hacking the same type of system and they usually end up with the same results.

Try this guide. I plan to hack mine with this Method once I upgrade my PS4 HD to 1TB (When arrives) and can use my 500gb HD in my PS3.

If you are willing to wait a week or so I can let you know how I get on.

Also as far as I'm aware you can still go online it just requires some setting up to ensure you protect yourself from a ban.

1.for now, i installed ofw 4.82

2.Installed latest rebug cfw 4.82 and rebug tool box.( by using ps3xploit on their already hosted website)

3.installed multiman then webman (i dont know why)

4.installed a pkg game and used another app (can't remerber the name right now but it was to make it playable (the one that use an account that need to be named aa)

5.game worked , was happy.

6.installed a game on folder and loaded it with multiman then did the same with an iso.

But

I could not make my 16 go usb 3.0 usb key appear even tho it was formated in fat 32 many time. (i blame the cheap walmart usb key for this. the console can't even recognize wich atrocity it is made from)

i still have no clue about how to install game to a exfernal hdd from a pkg or what is rap / rif file and a lot of stuff about psn if i want to go online to sync my trophies

thats it for now

feel free to guide me up if you have some answers. i shall keep on my research till i decide to make it a big emulation machine cause 80 go is not enough and i dont have another drive to put in :(

ps1 - ps2 and psp will be my next step.

The guide will work for you. Anything 2.5K or less you will get FULL CFW. No need to run each time you reboot etc. Games work without updates. You can play ANY PS2 PSP PS1 PSP Mini etc. 4.82.2 is the latest for rebug. Check that out

Unless PS3 hacking has gotten more streamlined, I'd just tell you to quit now. I hacked mine in 2011, and keeping up with REBUG CFW and MultiMAN to keep my pirated games playable was more trouble than it was worth. Even bricked my PS3 at one point, and ironically brought it back to life using my PSP.

I too have had much trouble with USB, and have read many "stupid things", like it has to do with size and such. But after finding a correct way to format the USB-stick I have had success with sizes ranging from 4GB to 64GB, and with more than 3 different brands. So here goes an instruction I have snapped up on formatting the USB-stick...

  1. Open a Command Prompt with administrator rights.
(Type cmd in Start menu search box and hit Ctrl+Shift+Enter)
  2. Type and execute the following commands in the command prompt to use Disk Part tool:
    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 1 (here my flash stick no. is Disk 1, yours might be different!)
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICK (Format process may take few minutes)
    ASSIGN
    EXIT
  3. Now you should have a USB-stick that works on your PS3!

Surely it must be more streamlined than it was in 2011? that was almost a decade ago after all.
It all seems fairly straight forward to me. No harder than Henkaku for PSVita or Luma for 3ds guess I wont really know until I try in the coming weeks.

It is really simple now, you just have to try a couple time for the ps3xploit to load, then you install cfw as you would install any other update and you are done for this. The harder part is learning about Backup loading solution as .pkg file and associated file for installation or iso / folder game usage.

So practically the same as doing the 3DS. Thanks I'm looking forward to get everything hacked out ;) Exciting times

I'm trying to make katamari forever work but i keep getting stuck on loading after the tutorial. -_-

I tried loading it from splitted iso on a usb stick.(the loading was incredibly long for the tutorial and i got stuck after)
I also tried loading it from a folder on a usb stick(loading was way faster but got stuck too.)

Tommorow i will try to find a way to install it on internal hdd without the need for a pkg version of the game( i could'nt find one and making one from iso or folder seem really complicated. hex edit and stuff.)

If any of you know a way, i would appreciate your help.

That game rules! I remember I used to have a Katamari ball as a kid although I'm pretty sure it wasn't called that lol
I wonder if you may have a corrupt back up ? have you tried from another source ? I would always try this option first and try other solutions after, from experience I often come across many dodgy rips/dumps etc

This game is not easy to find... Most of the link i tried were from the same source.
I finally got another copy of the game (in folder format) But i got the same problem, still getting stuck on a black screen with the mushroom spinning on the corner.

Its the game i wanted to play the most. and it doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else, i can't find anything on google.

It's not, at that time IIRC you either had a 3.50 or less console (just install cfw directly), used gamestophax, or waited; only a bit later the hardmod downgrades became a thing, and the current PS3Xploit v1/v2 is just a browser exploit port of that hardmod downgrade for 4.82 :)
