Hacking Discussion why does everyone think that atmosphere will fix/solve everything?

I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in here:

Atmosphere probably won't fix much in the beginning. I presume we'll have EmuNAND and LayeredFS in the beginning, Homebrew Launcher of course and some more features I probably forgot. But Atmosphere will outclass SX OS in the future, simply by the nature of open sourced software. The fact that the community can develop it, create their own flavors etc. is gonna push it far ahead of SX OS, at least progress-wise.

Of course, with SX OS copying code from Atmosphere (whiteknight as much as you want), they can more or less easily keep up with the development. I don't condone it personally (which is one of the reasons I don't want SX OS), but no one forces me to use it. Yes, there may or may not be brick code (even if stubbed) but as far as I'm concerned, as long as I don't run it myself, I'll be fine and users who ignore the warnings are fine on their own.

Though TX can't do this forever. At some point (at minimum, this point is reached when you can run backups reliably on Atmosphere), people will stop buying SX OS, because the differences that'll come up between both SX OS and Atmosphere will be too small to warrant a purchase.


But this is just my point of view. It may be that I'm wrong. I'm fine with waiting for Atmosphere, because I personally thing it'll be worth the wait. If you don't want to wait for running backups (or pirated software), get SX OS.

TX must be aware their opportunity to profit from their solution was largely going to be based on the availability and functionality of competing free alternatives and likely to be short-mid term at best.
After all, their work was founded on a well known publically disclosed exploit.
I used to think that window was going to be a matter of days back May early June when the knives were out but as time goes on, .. and on.. , I guess history will show that TX ended up banking very nicely.

This is pure speculation based on nothing. Maybe you don't get what I mean. I mean that the console recognizes a modification and stores this info to transmit it to the server the next time it is online.

SX OS is a compilation of stolen Atmosphere code with a hacked together rom loader (and removed brick code) thrown on top.

The question isn't why we think it'll fix everything, it's when it will solve everything. Open source means that the community will have free reign to do whatever they feel like, especially piracy, without having to pay for a license or support morally bankrupt people.

cuz theyre fanboys of the devs and think scires is a god, he is very smart, but not the only smart guy out there, and they dont wanna pay/ support what TX is doing. kinda the gateway situation 2.0. that made a lot of fanboys around here. let them miss out on what SX has already and ignore them.

Because:

- its open source;
- It will eventually play backups 4 free;
- Your console can remain 4 ever on a lower FW and emunand would be the one on last FW;
- After full release we could see a gazillion different builds from different communities to try\test with different stuff in them;
- you can update and do probably as much crap as you want inside the emunand it won't update anything on the actual Switch nand;
- Everything you try that can even lead to bans are completely safe if tested from emunand offline, because all logs, saves, profile data, caching will be saved on your Micro-SD and not on your nand.
- Probably will be the first to get fully custom stuff like themes, maybe even video player, file explorers, SOC clocks\temps after a certain time, because everyone can mess up with its source and change\add anything they want.
- Safer 4 online if you dont care to update main nand FW officially before ever trying any hack, you can remove the emunand M-SD and use the console online all original with the system nand (its not 100% safe, but I'm sure its the safest way possible if using emunand offline only).

i mean sx said theyre intested in emunand so thats not atmosphere exclusive im guessing and most stuff with be made as a homebrew app for ex theme changing soooo sx can get those too lol

SX will get emunand--conveniently right after Atmosphere gets it.

SXOS is closed-source meaning that the community is dependent on the SX team for all updates. There's no method of forking if anything were to happen to the team and no method of continuing to update if the team pulls a Gateway. Atmosphere is open source and thus allowing anyone to fork and maintain it if anything were to happen.
As well SXOS is made from stolen code from Atmosphere, so there's that to.

Atmosphere is licensed off of GPLv2, which stipulates, amongst other things, that those who make derivative copies must give credit--something which TX has refused to do.

Nobody's going to stop them, but it certainly doesn't give me any faith in them either.

Except it does? The atmosphere team has found easter eggs in SX that are present only in atmosphere, and have confirmed that SX is mostly atmosphere code.

The lone original part in SX is its rom loading. Oh, and removed brick code.
