Hacking The Cons of using SX OS!

What would you rather do?

  • Get backup loading now even if Atmosphere wont be supported earlier on Higher firmware.

  • I'll stay on lower firmware and wait for Atmosphere.

  • I'll stay on lower firmware and wait for Atmosphere, but still use TX dongle for convenience

  • I'll only play small games on my fat32 sd card and not update.

I know SX OS is not tobacco & it doesn't cause any physical harm, but that isn't how analogies work.

Tobacco increases your chance of dying, SX OS increases your chance of getting banned.

Saying that Tobacco producers wouldn't sell something that increases your chance of dying or TX wouldn't sell something that increases your chance of getting banned are both the same logical fallacy.

People will work on taking the chance of getting banned to 0%, the same as people are working to end cancer. Neither is fool proof.

-whoosh- that was the sound of the point going over your head, even though I clearly explained it, but I'll do it again anyway.

Cancer is an unavoidable cause of tobacco. After several years of use if you carry the cancer gene.

If cigarettes killed you in the middle of the first pack, tobacco would have been made illegal in 1492. There would be no big tobacco or any tobacco industry. TX isn't going to gamble their established reputation with untested mods. Nintendo may attempt to combat this in the future, but you can bet your bottom dollar that TX will be fast to work around this to save face. This isn't a pet project. This is a busines .

I agree. However it's bad business for Nintendo to ban every single Switch that's ever been modified. It blocks dollars from the switch owners who buy games and only use homebrew. There are a lot of those. And the ones like me who practice "Try before you Buy".

You were clear, you're just wrong.

Tobacco is also business, much bigger business. They saved face by bribing and hand waving.

You are assuming that TX will be able to work round a ban once it's in place, because they sure can't prevent you being banned in the first place. They've already said that you connect online at your own risk.

There aren't a lot of them, you just think that because you are one. People who get banned from online for modding who are serious about games, will just buy another switch. If they lose a few sales, then they are still up because the alternative is people aren't scared to mod their hardware and eventually end up pirating loads of games. When nintendo go paid subscription for online then it's only going to be serious people who sign up anyway.

Yes there is. You just think that because you aren't one of them. :P
But in reality you are incorrect in that assumption. There are many people like this. I know quite a few personally and quite a few others professionally. You've got to understand that while we may be a minority, when you put it into perspective, out of damn near 8 billion people (obviously not everyone in the world owns a Switch) there's still a hell of a lot that practice "try before you buy."

Edit: I'm not disagreeing with your point as a whole about bans, just to clarify. :yayswitch:

You don't know my view point, because I don't argue based on it.

How can Nintendo quantify how many triers will turn into buyers? That is where the whole argument falls down. You want them to trust that you will buy it, but time and time again it's only a very small minority that spend money when they don't have to.

Sounds like advertising folk would know that answer since they make adverts for a webpage and calculate if it's worth it or not using some kind of algorithm seemingly well established since the 20s.

If irc, using pc software you can reformat your sd card to be recognized for your switch without update. My switch is in 3.0.2 and i have a 128gb micro sd xc. I think i reformatted to fat32 hc (not sure, i'm abroad right now, can't check)

It's not an argument. It's a fact regardless of Nintendo's ability to quantify it which is all I was saying. Unfortunatly people on the internet tend to see what they want and not what is...
Also what kind of contradiction is that...? How in the hell can you even keep your head strait of you don't "argue" based on your own point of view. Wtf? You will say anything to not be wrong. Gold lol

Buying Team X's SX is the same as buying Sky3ds, it's cartridge only so no eshop games. Similarly, you play online at your own risk because of private header. Eventually, when CFW fully support both cartridge and eshop games no one will buy it anymore.

Did you read the TX's official statement on this?

The current version of SX OS only allows to play cartridge based games. But we're working hard to bring game titles that originate from different distribution media to SX OS as well! It is on our list of features to add in upcoming updates.

It's not guaranteed. The current hack is to trick the system into thinking the file on the SDcard is a cartridge. They haven't figured out eshop method. You are paying for what they advertised now, not future promises that can be broken.

What's the better option then? Wait for some other team to miraculously catch up to and pass TeamX in progress?

No thanks. I feel 100% confident that TeamX will either solve it first, or offer it immediately after someone else figures it out. Either way, I'll have it when it's an option. Yee-ha!

I'm very skeptical about Atmosphere releasing this month and even if it did I doubt it will be very useful in it's early stages.

Agreed.

It's really not shocking to me, but the amount of butthurt on this forum over a Team asking for money is sad. They put time and money into this and are offering a product/solution. The same people that piss and moan over a $5 ESP wi-fi board because they want a free option. This generation of "get-it-free and immediately" is really quite nauseating.

Yeah, it also happened when you had to buy a $7 eshop game to install Haxchi.

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
