With the current developments, im wondering where i should jump in. I'm currently still on 3.0.2 and wondering if i should stay where i am or upgrade slightly to a higher firmware. The two main things i want to do are the save editing and dumping my personal copy of Mario Odyssey so i can poke around it with that map editor tool.

I have an idea of how emunand works, my question is if I use emunand (once Atmosphere is released) while not connecting to the internet for homebrew stuff and then Horizon for playing physical games, will that result in a ban? I'm not so clear on the advantages of emunand and if it can help prevent a ban so long as we dont go online with it.

If you make any modifications to your system that isn't authorized b Nintendo and then subsequently connect online at any point, Nintendo can potentially ban you. The purpose of EmuNAND is to keep a low firmware on your SysNAND, not to protect from you being banned. If you get banned on EmuNAND, your SysNAND will get banned as well. The only 2 ways to prevent yourself from ever getting banned is by either never modifying your Switch or never connecting online.

How is the purpose of emunand to keep a low firmware on your sysnand? Can't you do that just by never updating your firmware.

Whoops, my bad. I left out the other important about EmuNAND. In addition to leaving your SysNAND firmware low, the purpose of EmuNAND is to enjoy all of the benefits of being on the latest firmware without updating your SysNAND. This is in case future exploits may be discovered on the lower firmwares but you don't want to not update your console in the meantime.

Ah, okay so if I understand right your sysnand acts a base firmware, which will ideally be something low. The emunand copies the sysnand but can also be updated as newer firmware comes out. Does this give us the possibility of updating games despite our sysnand's firmware being low? s

Yes, through EmuNAND. Thats one of the reasons its updated to the latest firmware, aside from being able to play online, download DLC, and get games from the eShop.

But wouldn't playing online, downloading DLC and getting games from the eShop using emunand result in a ban? Nintendo must be able to detect you're using emunand and not sysnand. So the main advantage of emunand is getting offline features of newer firmware, emunand doesn't do anything to support online activities.

EmuNAND is being ran off the SD card which could house important and personal information so they would never scan the contents of the SD card. In terms of what Nintendo sees, EmuNAND is basically a copy of your SysNAND so they look identical. You wouldn't get banned for using EmuNAND, you would get banned for doing something else entirely unrelated to EmuNAND.

Okay so more or less, you can run emulators off emunand and play physical games online and you should be okay in terms of not getting banned. Sysnand remains untouched on the emmc (or whatever the internal storage is called) at a lower firmware, which emunand builds upon.

Is that all right?

Edit:

but I just realized if emunand runs off a sdcard, there's no way of playing physical games online. So you could only access the eShop, but not play carts?

I'm getting the sense you're very worried about being banned. The whole purpose of EmuNAND is to take that risk of getting banned while using hacks. For a foolproof way of enjoying hacks without being banned, you would do all of your hacking shenanigans on SysNAND because it will never be connected to the Internet whatsoever and you will play legally purchased games on the latest firmware using EmuNAND. This takes the both of best worlds except you must buy all games that you plan to play online with. Some people don't mind getting banned by Nintendo while others, including myself, will wholeheartedly take the risk while being as careful as possible to not give Nintendo a reason to ban us.

I got it now thanks so much!

I autoRCM'ed my switch (bricked it.) Its fine but I can no longer boot into Horizon w/out the sleep mode glitch (it doesnt wake up after sleep mode.) Since I cant power it off and connect it to a power source w/out it turning on into RCM and draining battery, I would like to know what state the switch is in during the sleep mode glitch... Is it off? Is it wasting power? Is it somehow in RCM?

I know that tx modchip will work on any firmware but can you play any game regardless of it's required firmware on any firmware? (Basically can I play a 4.0 game on a 3.0 console)

I would like to use my 128 gb sdcard on my switch. I read somewhere that if I format as fat32 it should work. However it asks me update even to fat32

Think of Snow White as your Nintendo Switch. She is alive but stuck in a deep sleep that can only be awakened by true love's kiss, or in this case holding the power button down for a century.

That’s a great annalogy and all but how much power will it use? Also is there any way to have it shut down and NOT wake up after connected to a power source. (because switches tend to turn on when connected to a power source, even when it is completely shut down. It will turn on)

The Switch is basically in a sleep mode that can be awoken out of so I would assume the same battery rate it depletes when its normally in sleep mode. When I checked online, people gave varying percentages on the consumption rate and since no one's really tested this new mode, it may or may not have a different power consumption rate (but I'm willing to bet its the same as normal sleep mode). And no there is no way to do that, as far as I'm aware of. Before now, I don't really see the need for something like that but maybe someone will make one (if not already).

I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
