And how we're supposed to run the patches without the bootrom hack? We can't.

The scene is full of selfish attention whores
A little bit of a sanity check is needed. Some random person saw a tweet and started this thread. Shiny did not come here dangling a carrot in front of your face and then pull it away. It seems your beef should be with the OP for causing you to get teased?

Sweet. I don't personally care for Arch Linux but this opens the door for running other distros and even Android in the future.
Getting a Linux kernel running is a necessary first step to actually porting Android to the thing. It's only part of the way there but it's something.

Aren't SALT the people who were writing that anti-piracy 3DS CFW but never released anything? KARL3DS or whatever it was called.
I didn't expect them to actually release something. Even after all this time I associate them with that and I'm sure a lot of other people do too.

They're called Team SALT for a reason.

I doubt anyone would have used the Anti-Praciy FW anyway. Just sad they not release stuff, I wounder why we actually hyped for such kind of news, I mean unless someone release somthing, this news are mostly useless. This are just Fame Hunters and 99% here gave them the fame, sadly.

Only show Fame to people who actually release stuff :)

everyone talking about how they hate the hackers for not releasing bootrom hacks...
go on hack the system yourself and profit out of it....

i do want a full open cfw for my switch, but not like this.

lets be clear, most hackers do it for educational purpose and ofcourse the fame game.

lets just wait and pray

@Cubuss befor you say its false information check it for your self .. as you see he released it i never talked about any bootrom exploit release.

there is 2 ways to boot linux now a) Take over TrustZone or b) Bootrom Hax

and another thing Fail0verClowns had already working drivers for the GPU Display Touch and More but they wont Release it ^^

I don't get why so many people in this thread (especially on the first few pages) are like "Why would I want Linux on the Switch?"

You could build up a desk with a Switch docking station that has a keyboard and a mouse attached and a monitor of course.
Should be enough for many office tasks, browsing and media consumption (once Linux runs smoothly and has drivers for everything). For this use case I'd prefer it over Android any time.

However on the go I'd like to have Horizon OS and Android as some kind of dual boot as there are a few very good Android apps I'd love to enjoy on my Switch which won't ever get a homebrew port.

Although there's also this:

With a portable keyboard and Linux it might work as some kind of notebook while traveling.

I never understood why anyone wanted one of those Windows Mobile + Android dual boot phones back then (I guess they were from HTC?) but honestly?
If I could, I'd take Horizon OS and Android and Linux to my Switch with some kind of GRUB bootloader. I see many use cases for any of those systems on the Switch.
If Anbox and ARC Welder would stop being crappy alpha/beta shit and make some massive compatibility and speed improvements, there's no need for Android at all as Linux would take over the apps. :)As a last word why's everyone here so salty about shinyquagsire23 not releasing a boot exploit? He never said he did and making his Linux stuff available is pretty neat as it becomes usable pretty quickly once Kate and SciresM are dropping their taste of epicness this summer. We already have April right now so ... be f*cking patient. ;)

Erm, I'm all for installing it to tinker with stuff but this is just silly. Why would you cripple a games console to do something a raspberry pi could do better? Remember, it involves wiping the nand first, you can't use it to play Switch games at the same time.
