Hi dude, I'm the one who did that release. I had to make some modifications in the original source code to make it work inside the ESP8266 chip. It's not fake. It works very well. I use it with NS 3.0.0, so I'm not aware about if it work with fake news. I guess not. Try to use it and let me know.
Take in mind, there is an issue with the Wifi chip and N.Switch 3.0.0, so try to not set the password in the wifi setup. By default there is no password but I add an option to change the name of the Wifi and set a Password. If you set a password you will experience issues of connection, and probably it will fail when trying to link the wifi connection.
Best regards.

What's this ESP8266 chip and what does it do?

Its basically a tiny wifi router board with 4 megs of memory, and can be loaded up via usb on pc, then you can go totally offline, make your ps4 or switch point only to it as its own wifi network, with no outside internet so you save from never getting update, but you can still launch webkit exploits that need wifi on.

So you are basically creating an ad-hoc connection to make the Switch connect to it to launch the webkit exploit / exploit server, but without having any actual internet access?

I have seen it posted on Wololo at April 9 or even before...

"PS4: ps4-exploit-host updated to 0.4.2, Al-Azif announces upcoming modchip"

"This new release brings a stream of bug fixes and new options, including support for other consoles (PS Vita and Nintendo Switch among others)"

Al-Azif is also working on an improved chip based on ESP8266 wifi Chip...

Info on quote:
Al-Azif basically intends to build a supercharged version of the ESP8266 with more features, such as support for an SD card to host larger files. The planned features are mouth-watering:

  • Control the device from your phone/computer over Bluetooth/Wifi
  • Open API for developers to interact/control the device
  • Press physical buttons on the console
  • View/Download UART data
  • Add, download, or delete exploits with one button click
  • Custom filetype (Compresses exploits into a single file to install/share)
    • Supports both Bin and JS payloads
    • Includes application to compress/extract these files
    • This is to save space and add to ease of use
  • Web based firmware updates for this device (Need no physical access to device to update it)
  • Basic usage without soldering (No buttons or UART)
  • A secret feature that’ll be revealed after it’s working 100%
    • If you do some snooping on the PCB you might be able to guess it
His hardware project is codenamed “the gate” and he intends to open source all of the information once done.

I can’t wait to see where this is going, and how much the result will cost (although I’m a bit bitter given that I just received my ESP8266 )

ps: But 4 me is kinda pointless as all the chip do, you can already do it without wasting any money on the chip, with a PC and a router, the chip will just do it more easily and safe since it doesnt have internet, nothing can get updated, but you can also deactivate internet on the router or just remove the phone plug from ADSL that goes into ur router;).

@guily6669 - Yeah, Al-Azif wants to build an open-source super-charged ESP8266 type modchip, which is good for some as not all countries is it easy to find, plus they getting more costly due to ebay scammers, now that 'news is going mainstream' for ps4 usage.

But you can easy add more 'storage' as seen here:

http://www.maxconsole.com/threads/e...-card-for-ps4-4-55-payloads-by-stooged.46799/

For ps4 it is needed as 'game mods' like for GTA5 can be large payloads, so 4mb is not enough.

But for Switch since most are not on 3.0.0 and most will be converting to CFW, this will not be needed for long, just a temp stop gap until TX or ReSwitch comes out. :)

Yeah i bought it mostly for the ps4. Best $4 investment you can get if on 4.05 or 4.55.

Good to see you around these parts Gary. Been a while since we talked hope all is well on your end

I can tell you that I've got two firmware releases in my GitHub for PS4 exploits and chip ESP8266, and I've included GTA V mods. I've included 3, which I guess are the most important. It's truth they're around 1.9 and 2.2 Megabytes each one, but I've got them compressed on chip ESP8266, so all payloads and GTA V mods and also the website takes at all 1.2 Megabytes :)

You can get it from github. The most advanced one is the one I called PS4 Admin which corresponds to my Firmware V3, and it is very cool.

There are several samples ( JPG ) in the file list.
