rsz_1sega_ages.jpg

In a press release today, SEGA of America announced that SEGA AGES, the original series that brought classic games to modern consoles, is being rebooted for Nintendo Switch. The series is being developed by M2, the Japanese developer known for ports of classic games such as the popular SEGA 3D Classics series on the Nintendo 3DS.

The first five SEGA AGES titles have been announced, including such notable games as the Sega Master System versions of Phantasy Star and Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sega Genesis versions of Thunder Force IV and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as a port of the original arcade version of Gain Ground. This collection will mark the first time that several SEGA titles have had official launches in the West.

This series of retro titles will be launching in Japan, North America, and Europe starting in Summer 2018.

Well you could say at least it's gonna be good caus M2 is handling the games, and also be disappointed it doesn't seem like it's gonna be a lot of games like the ps4/xbox one, but those are all genesis games, these are gonna be more than just genesis, but also master system and arcade ports and who knows what else.

So i mean better to examine all of the content and decide which is good. Personally i would side with M2 cause of their legacy in providing some good ports, especially where it counts like the game mods making it like a sem-new game. 3DS gunstar heroes can switch between standing shooting to running shooting like CONTRA III & Hard corps had before that game ever came out, not to mention out run having car mods to make the game easier, instead of a port of a bunch of games from one console, (that doesn't even list sonic 3 making that a problem for me) over having good ones even if lower in number excel at content.

Besides we don't even know if more games will be added, I hope it will though. The most interesting thing is how M2 will try to make Phantasy star modern with their game mods, hopefully stuff like a map at least.

Just release all the games separately and let me chose what one's I want, rather than being forced to by 30 shite ones so I can get 4/5 good ones.

'S not like the DreamCast flopped or anything and they made a purely financial decision that a lot of the Western executives thought should have been made after the Saturn...
The Dreamcast only flopped because of the infighting between SOA and SOJ. SOJ not listening to SOA, after SOA was killing it in the US/Europe. Sega CD and 32X should have never existed imo.

So what makes these roms special or new or unique?
Each game will contain enhancements or bonuses that M2 is well known for.
For instance, Thunder Force IV will contain enhancements seen in the Saturn release, and Phantasy Star will include enhancements done in the PS2 release of the game. Sonic 1 will have features, such as the inclusion of the Spindash (and possibly the new Dropdash from Mania if released screenshots are anything to go by?), seen in the 3D Classics release on 3DS, as well as the inclusion of the more obscure Mega-Play arcade release of the game.

All in all, it's not just going to be another typical, slapped together compilation. These games are being given some love, and M2 knows their stuff.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
