Toad's cranium: hat or head?

toaddd.png

In the latest Super Mario Odyssey Dev. Talk video, producer Yoshiaki Koizumi weighs in on a question that many have been asking themselves ever since they first played Super Mario Bros on the NES and glanced at the pixels that constructed the crude image of Toad on their TV's. And now, after years of wondering we finally have a definitive answer to that long-pondered question...

Is Toad's upper cranium a mushroom-shaped hat or is it in fact part of his head?

Here's what the producer of Super Mario Odyssey had to say on the subject:
So that, as it turns out is actually Toad's head. I'm going to have to leave it to all of you to figure out exactly how that works out. Maybe there’s something inside…

This goes contrary to the time Toad's mushroom was a hat in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, but now Mario has also spent time meeting and greeting realistically depicted humans in New Donk City who knows what to believe anymore?

So, do you buy the above or are waiting to hear from series creator Shigeru Miyamoto before making any absolute decisions about the anatomy of strange mushroom men in your favourite video game?

Why do people assume if it's a part of his head, it just be filled with organs and veins n shit? He could easily just have a regular head and the mushroom part just be a protective exterior to protect the skull. Mushrooms are soft.

Yep! Just like what I posted above.

I'd prefer this though...

Technically it's both a part of him and his "cap," as in a mushroom cap. It would have had to grow out of him though, hats in Mario's world just look like normal hats, not mushrooms.

Edit: unless Peach just makes all her servants wear them as a cruel joke, also plausible.

It is true that it could be both, but that means he pulling off a body part every time he takes it off.

It is funny that OP's picture assumes Toads are made of meat.

You know, I don't actually mind this picture. It is a much better depiction of Toad without a "hat" than the egghead in the cartoon.

Maybe it is both. Maybe the egg head Toad is bold and has a hollow hat/hair piece and it's kinda like their hair?

Who knows, it's a Mario game. We don't play it for facts we play it for fun, what games are really for.

It is what it is.

So why are we holding a poll? It's been confirmed that it's his head, not a hat. There's no debate. I'd imagine the TV show to not be cannon.
Because 43.5% of us still believe it's a hat, and hey, it's fun :)
