nds-bootstrap loader: Run commercial NDS backups from an SD Card

nds-bootstrap:

Thanks to the work of ahezard, Gericom, Apache, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000 and other contributors, we can now load NDS games from the SD card, without any flashcard/SLOT-1 card.

Don't expect high compatibility, but do expect many, many updates.

I was able to load Pokémon White from the SD without the need of a donor card, but the game freezes constantly and when starting a new game it freezes permanently when appears the sprite of the professor Juniper, in a future update this can be fixed?

Try patching your ROM with an AP patch.
https://www.odrive.com/s/8443cc3a-8...rom+OpenPatch+(xdelta+files+created+by+Robz8)
Look in the "RetroGameFan's Game Patches from OpenPatch (xdelta files created by Robz8)" folder.

If that doesn't work, then the AP is undocumented.

Skelux's just released hack of Sm64Ds, "Mario's Holiday" does not work. I've tried various settings with various donor roms, and I get the exact same screen every time. Other Sm64ds hacks work just fine. But this one does not. Any chance this could get looked into?

What's the size of the ROM hack?
btw, donor ROM isn't used SM64DS and ROM hacks, so make sure the "Use set donor ROM" option for it is off.

It seems like its a whole new game. It's a lot more complex than any standard ROM hack and it might be "different" from SM64DS. I don't know how else to explain it. Skelux made a video a while back of his "anti-cheat" stuff he did to the game, not sure if that has anything to do with it

Oh, I see the problem. The TID got changed, and TWLoader and SRLoader doesn't recognize it, so the SDK version for it isn't set. The next version of both should fix that bug.

EDIT: Tried fixing it. Still getting the same screen. :(

Damn. Take as much time as you need fixing the issue though. If you get his "Mario Holiday" hack working, Star World should be playable by the time it is released.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
