ROM Hack [Question] Pokemon XY - Possible to have same gender rival and player?

I'm looking into using PK3DS to try some gender-related shenanigans and I have a few questions.

Would it be possible to change which rival you get (like picking a female character and having Serena be your rival)? I've poked around the Game Text and Story Text and I see that I can change the respective dialogue options, but I'm not sure where I could change the association between player gender and rival character.

Ideally I'd like to not brute-force everything and individually swap all text options and trainer info and the like (like taking the "Serena" character and manually changing the dialogue and models to become "Calem"). It'd be nice to build an option into the game itself but hard-coding separate patches for each combination is doable if tedious.

Is this at all possible with the control we have?

Haha, I realize it'll be a ton of work. That's why I was asking if anyone had ideas to approach this in a smarter way. I'm just curious to see if if I can make the game do what I want it to or if I have to go in the hard way and manually change a bunch of stuff

You could just swap some files and data...

Couldn't you just pick one and then use an ntr plugin to change your own gender? Or did I miss the point?

The only way would be to copy the model of the rival of one gender, copy it, rename it to the model of the opposite gender rival, and run it with HANS, OnionFS, or whatever you want. If you want to change the text too, you'll have to find every occurrence of the rival gender that you don't want and manually replace it with that in which you do. The only problem would be that when you choose your gender at the beginning of the game, only one gender model would be available, two male models or two female models. Also, if you choose the model that represents the gender that you modified, you would still appear as that gender if using wireless play on the opposite DS, and, obviously, when you're not running the patch.

That would be my suggestion as well.
It's the easiest way and probably the only one that doesn't require asm hacks.
