Hi all,

Guess there's nothing like making your first post an embarrassing one, eh? Here goes:

I have a n2DS XL that I want to hardmod. So I perform the mod, admire my (admittedly pretty nice, considering I've never had to work on these miniscule pads before, but have done plenty of soldering beforehand) handiwork, put the battery in... Black screens, blue light of 5 seconds, pop.

Out of curiosity, I get my SD card reader in on the action - blue screen with error codes - for a nanosecond - pop, off. Remove the mod, same. Test with just the battery and pcb, same. So obviously the hardmod works, but I've managed to do something with the power in the process? I also tried the charger - I get an orange light, but still the unit refuses to start up properly.

I'm guessing there isn't any fuses available for continuity testing, and I have managed to find the TI CKP charge IC on the board. But save replacing this IC, is there anything else glaringly obvious that I should be checking first?

Many thanks!

Jonathan

I've gone ahead and triple-checked all the FFCs I can. Still no change. Upon reading a few more threads, and by the fact that the n2DS doesn't have a secondary board, I'm curious as to where else this issue could be lurking. (I'll check the battery terminals while the charger is connected next I think to see what voltage is there. I don't imagine this IC to allow only charging and not sourcing from battery power when it's blown, though stranger things.)

Blue screen with error codes in it, is likely something wrong with the bootrom
Nothing can go wrong with the bootrom, it's read only.
Besides, he said that that happens when he has the hardmod connected to a SD reader, which is perfectly normal.
Did you even read the whole post?

Nono, that behaviour was expected - I was checking to see whether I'd managed to fry anything else after doing the mod, so I used my SD card reader to verify that I hadn't taken the NAND or anything else down with it.

~680mV connected to charger across battery terminals. Hmm...
