I was trying to mod my new 3ds XL with a type C charger because I’m into using it but it’s really inconvenient to use the proprietary charger..
I accidentally burnt off a 512k resistor while adding a C port to my DS- it was on the c-board. I was troubleshooting and testing when I disconnected the power wire from the port but touched it to the power contact on the board while it was plugged in. This caused a spark, and now my DS won’t charge a battery. I’ve tried using a multimeter, but I can’t figure out what to test. I can’t find good resources specifically for the
New 3DS XL. Everything else I searched gave me different models. I tried using those as references, but I don’t want to make a worse mess of this project.
I wouldn’t have made a post if I could otherwise figure this out myself.
Some things I’ve tried so far: connecting the ds charger causes a safe shutdown in the charger, won’t charge another ds until it’s unplugged from the wall and plugged back in.
The batteries and charger are functional, the DS turns on, although I also ruined the little flap for the touch screen ribbon cable and have another one coming, so while it turns on I can’t actually do much but I can confirm other buttons work and it’ll open a program- so it works.
It seems like the power connection has continuity to ground? Beeps when I touch the charger port case to power connection. So obviously a short?
I have checked the soldering work and underneath the board is fine, I am not removing it unless I absolutely have to, to replace to charge port. I’ve opened it up a few times and don’t want to keep plugging and unplugging stuff.
I cannot tell which and or what fuses are important here. I’m a little confused about resistors/fuses on the board, I know what they are but can’t identify them by looking at this thing, without a guide.
