None of the console scenes are truly dead as even the Atari 2600 gets homebrew games once in a while.

Regardless its great to see something like this come to the PS3, kinda feels like NTRBOOT.

There was a load of drama about some moderator at PSXHAX 'leaking' the 4.81 exploit. The whole of it has been purged from that thread though, weird.

Whel, the leak could mean two things: Sony would patch the exploits in e new update and/or someone would sell a product to softmod the console based on the leaked exploits
Hopefuly, esc0rtd3w will release a working version of softmod based on the exploits.

It is, but not yet fully made yet but leaked.
Escort aimed for a Christmas release, but it might be released quicker "thanks" to the leak (Not really a thanks)
Just keep an eye psx-place.

I feel like the "leaked" files aren't useful to mode end users anyways. You would need to be a dev or have an idea how to write the scripts needed to execute it. Just my 2 cents

The leaks are not for end users at all. It's best to just ignore the leaks and wait for Es0rtD3w and his team's official release of the exploit.

Technically yes with DB MFW, but you will need one hdd for CFW/OFW and one hdd for DB MFW.

PS3 firmware installs to the hdd as well as the nand/nor.

A mismatch will not load/force you to update.

DB firmware just lets you be able to install FW over firmware without downgrade. But conditions mean hdd is required.

Just dropping by to say that escortdew and his team have made enough progress in their project to give a release date. Escortdew is currently saying we should be expecting a release by Christmas or maybe sooner.
I'm not able to post the link for the page on psxhax, but if you search for "PS3 Webkit Exploit Esc0rtd3w" it should come up; page 38 of the comment section is where he posts the announcement.

Here is why you need two HDDs. One HDD is for the CFW you decide to use and the other is for the "OFW" (DualBoot FW) you are using. Of course you CAN use 1 HDD, but that would require deleting all traces of CFW (apps, mods, etc) when switching to the DualBoot which is basically impossible and too hard. When you install the CFW the "system memory" (I think you mean NAND/NOR) is modified for that CFW and when you switch to the DualBoot FW the NAND/NOR is changed again to look VERY similar to OFW almost exactly identical. So you practically NEED 2 hdds. It's honestly the cheapest method out there though. System memory and the HDD are two different things and like @KiiWii said part of the FW is installed to the system memory, but not the entire firmware itself.
