I just saw a very minimal and good-looking Start Menu on a screenshot; how do I make mine like that?

upload_2017-9-9_16-49-48.png Here it is. it's like the expanded hamburger menu the original one has, only it makes up the whole menu, and All Apps, instead of being always open, is just a button. does anyone know what kind of witchcraft this is?
there is some explanation in the comments of the Reddit thread I've found it in, but I can't make any sense of it:
the comments of that Reddit thread said:
You remove them with the context menu (right click) and then you resize the start menu by dragging the edge
here's the link to the thread itself

Just remove all the boxes and then you can just drag to make the menu smaller

When you press the start button, there's a bunch of random things like a store button and Candy Crush. You right click those and unpin them all. Once they're all gone, you resize it. The final product doesn't look like the screenshot at all though.

Did you also change which folders appear in Personalization settings like it mentions? You likely need to add enough to warrant the all apps list to not be shown as default. You may also need to disable "Show app list" as well.

yes, and sadly that's not how it works, apparently. every folder that doesn't have space to appear, just simply doesn't.

all that option does is it separates the Tiles from All Apps, and sets the Tiles page to appear as the default. even if there are no tiles configured, it just presents an empty page with a collapsed hamburger menu.

Suppose we should also ask, what version of Windows 10 are you using? Latest update, or an old version?

It's possible the person in the screenshot either doesn't have the latest Windows 10, or has the latest and you don't. I know MS has changed the way the start menu works between updates, but I don't know whether his is old or new.

I'd rather not use a 3rd party programme if I can somehow achieve it with the built-in tools anyway.
Well, you can hide menu tiles using some external app [Classic Shell]
It has setting for that look

Well and it can be only achieved via that afaik. You can't naturally hide start menu tiles.

tiles, you can hide (remove all of them and resize the menu so only the All Apps list fits), it's the list you can't.

Yeah but to achieve what the screenshot has, you need to use external shell like ClassicShell or shitty StartIsBack.
