Hello, i've looked everywhere and i havent found any specific amswer to my problem. There was a thing on my homebrew menu that said something along the lines of making the update prompt go away when using the 3ds, i cant remember the specifics of it but after i did it, i wasnt able to use my soundhax homebrew menu anymore, it just gets stuck on the yellow if that means anything. I dont know if my homebrew thing was tampered with after using that program and im wondering if theres a fix for my issue.

Im not too knowledgeable about this stuff but i know enough, and my 3ds version is 11.2.0-35U

Also optional question. Is it actually 100% safe to update my 3ds? If so, how? I havent found anything on that either

If you have custom firmware then you can just update through System Settings. It's perfectly safe.

What sort of custom firmware? To be honest i just followed a step by step youtube video on the thing because i didnt wanna do something stupid and brick my 3ds so im not really following

You're doing it wrong then. YouTube videos should not be followed. Use this.

Not quite correct.

If you have CFW (with FIRM protection enabled), you can update through Settings.

How do i know if thats enabled?

If you are indeed running custom firmware then you don't need soundhax. Just install the HBL CIA using FBI and launch homebrew from there.
How do i install it?

i wouldnt recommend following video guides when its about hacking. video guides tend to be outdated.

for real, follow this https://3ds.guide/get-started read through the stuff thats on there, then click on the picture of the 3ds/2ds you have and follow all the steps.

soundhax is not a cfw, its a userland exploit. it wont work anymore if you update. you start with soundhax, then you install a kernel exploit (boot9strap) and then you install a cfw. the guide is getting updates all the time and its really noob friendly.

its the best you can do for your 3ds if you already have homebrew launcher.

once you have installed boot9strap+luma it will be safe for you to update + you will have easier access to homebrew/more homebrew than you would have with hbl. and you will have a "backdoor" to your 3ds in case you brick.

as for your hbl not launching: get the latest version of it/ try using a clean sd card until you installed cfw if that doesnt help

Provide link to the video you used plus the content of your sd card, we'll then be able to see what point you're up to and how screwed you really are.

You already did something stupid, you followed a YouTube video instead of coming here first.

When I first hacked my 3DS I did watch a YouTube, however it was one that was following the guide that has already been linked to in this thread. Also it was only to figure out at which point to make a backup during the process as I wasn't sure from reading, this was installing a9lh and not the current b9s.
